Background

Grow the Flow is an organizational affiliate of 501(c)(3) Conserve Utah Valley. We are uniting science, storytelling, and civic action to do what no community ever has before: restore its saline lake. We collaborate with farmers, faith leaders, scientists, students, and everyday Utahns to help our community understand that a healthy lake is the foundation of a thriving state. Together, we're building the public will and political courage needed to secure lasting water policy, restore natural balance, and ensure that Great Salt Lake—and the people who depend on it—endure. About the Role

We are seeking a creative and organized Digital & Social Media Specialist to help grow our digital presence and tell compelling stories across social media platforms. We are a growing organization, and you will be entering a workplace centered around collaboration, self-starting, and a team deeply motivated by our mission.

Working closely with the Communications Director and Events Manager, the Digital & Social Media Specialist will manage and create content for our social channels, including short-form video production, visuals, text, event promotion, influencer campaigns, and current events. The ideal candidate is committed to helping restore Great Salt Lake, can translate complex issues into clear and engaging content, and is an expert in building engagement and motivating people to take action.

Type of work

32-40 hours, largely remote work week Due to the nature of our work, candidates residing in the Great Salt Lake watershed with a personal interest in our cause will be prioritized. The position is remote with frequent in person events for internal growth and community engagement. Candidates living outside of the area with excellent qualifications will be considered. Work hours are generally flexible, though there are frequent deadlines and social media schedules, but an employee's schedule can be worked out by mutual agreement.

Responsibilities

Social Media Management (60%)

  • Create and manage day-to-day content across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, and X.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute a social media strategy, integrating milestone events, political developments, and community education and engagement.
  • Implement a strategic social media content calendar.
  • Create original, creative content (including short-form videos, carousels, graphics, stories, and written posts) that expands our reach, is easy to understand, and inspires individuals to join our movement.
  • Write clear, compelling social copy that reflects Grow the Flow's voice and makes complex topics accessible to broad audiences.
  • Coordinate community volunteers to amplify content and share with key online forums and platforms.
  • Engage in social conversations, comments, trends, and breaking news across the media landscape to identify opportunities for timely content.
  • Be comfortable appearing on camera for talking-head videos and other social content.
  • Work with the Grow the Flow team and subject-matter experts to turn research, policy developments, and events into engaging digital content.
  • Help maintain a consistent visual identity and voice across platforms.
  • Support digital promotion of campaigns, events, volunteer opportunities, fundraising efforts, and other Grow the Flow initiatives.
  • Monitor and respond to comments and DMs across social media platforms daily.
    Video Production & Editing (30%)
  • Film and edit high-quality short-form video for Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and other platforms.

  • Incorporate B-roll, graphics, text, music, captions, and other elements to create polished, engaging videos.
  • Maintain an organized library of video, photography, and other digital assets.
  • Stay current on social video trends, editing techniques, platform features, and best practices.
    Strategy & Analytics (10%)
  • Track and report social media performance, including audience growth, reach, engagement, and post performance.
  • Use performance data to identify what is working and continually improve content strategy.
  • Test new formats, messaging, creative approaches, and platforms.
  • Help develop strategies to expand Grow the Flow's audience and turn online engagement into real action.
    Qualifications
  • 3+ years of professional experience in social media, digital communications, marketing, video production, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of or interest in the issues facing Great Salt Lake and a personal desire to make a difference.
