General Description:

The Music Director supports our UUCF mission by coordinating and leading worshipful music that engages and inspires the congregation so that they can grow spiritually. The role ensures that musicians develop a community with each other and are given the opportunity to use their gifts to serve the congregation. The Music Director is considered an integral and participating member of the UUCF congregation staff, where the Music Director's input and participation is welcomed and encouraged in meeting the objectives of the congregation's ministry.

Skill Sets:

Strong choral conducting and vocal teaching skills Familiarity and comfort with a wide range of musical styles and choral repertoire, including but not limited to hymns, rock, pop, jazz, gospel, rap, folk, and classical. Ability to be well organized. Computer literacy. Good communication skills. Good personal skills and the ability to lead and inspire people. Aligns with Unitarian Universalist values

Duties/Responsibilities:

Recruit, support, and direct the volunteer UUCF Choir. Collaborate with the Minister and Music & Worship Committees to plan meaningful music that reflects Unitarian Universalist values. Rehearse the choir weekly and on Sunday mornings, fostering vocal growth and musical excellence. Lead congregational singing, introduce new hymns, and direct the choir during worship services. Provide piano accompaniment for rehearsals and services, arranging substitutes as needed. Prepare and present regular choir anthems, seasonal services (including Christmas Eve), and quarterly music-themed worship services. Coach and support volunteer musicians, soloists, and small ensembles. Manage the music ministry, including the music budget, guest musician payments, sheet music, copyright compliance, scheduling, and instrument maintenance. Participate in worship planning and monthly Music Committee meetings. Help organize special concerts and fundraising events that enrich the congregation's musical life. Perform other duties as assigned

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Part-time position averaging up to 15 hours per week, with a flexible schedule based on worship services, rehearsals, and special events. Regular work includes Sunday mornings, one weekday evening rehearsal, occasional Saturdays, holidays (including Christmas Eve), and other special services as needed. Some planning, preparation, and administrative work may be completed remotely. Must be able to collaborate effectively with staff, volunteers, and congregational leaders in a team-oriented environment. Must be able to perform repetitive hand movements associated with piano playing and conducting Occasionally lift or move materials weighing up to 30 pounds .

Salary and Benefits:

This position is offered in a pay range of $18 to $30 per hour, commensurate with experience and training. Paid professional membership in the Association for Unitarian Universalist Music Ministries (AUUMM)

$18.00 - $30.00 per hour Expected hours: 15.0 per week
