Service Writer — Make the World a Better Place If you don't want to make the world a better place, we're not a fit for you. Its emphasis on creating value and building relationships through service reflects part of how we do business. We're hiring a service writer now. Our plan is to add an assistant service advisor who also serves as the primary parts manager in about 90 days. The service writer's responsibilities extend from the customer's first conversation through completion of the work. They include estimates, documented authorizations, customer updates, and scheduling—reserving bays and assigning technicians in collaboration with the shop manager. You will also handle partial parts management, revenue tracking, regular reporting, marketing tasks, and shop management responsibilities as they apply to your position. Beyond the daily workflow, you will take on assigned tasks and improvement projects, help us continually refine our voice and approach, and perform a few simple daily chores. Assigned tasks have deadlines, and you own those deadlines. That ownership requires ongoing communication. Keep customers, technicians, and shop management informed, and raise questions or obstacles promptly when they threaten a commitment. Communication is mandatory. Integrity is not optional, including in the smallest things. Dependability, reliability, accurate reporting, and keeping your word are part of integrity. Required checklists must be followed every time. Our checklists have one passing score: perfect. Every applicable item must be completed. Questions or obstacles must be raised and resolved rather than skipped or marked complete. Within those standards, we want you to customize the position around your strengths, skills, and ideas. Follow the established system, understand its purpose, and help make it better. Applicants for the service writer position must have a sales penetration track record of 60% or better. At your face-to-face interview, bring a shop management software report or another equally reliable source documenting your performance, with customer information redacted.
