Assess student needs, goals, interests, and prior academic experiences to guide students in the design and implementation of a successful academic plan. Collaborate with faculty members and student services staff to address the academic advising needs of individuals or groups of students. Understand and interpret CFCC policies and academic options of all programs to facilitate the student's academic success.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Academic Advising Center Coordinator. May exercise limited functional and technical supervision over work-study student assistants.
ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
Provide support to students who visit the Academic Advising Center by greeting the students and assisting with check-in. Initiate contact with students in order to inform and prepare them for selection of program and courses. Assist students with academic planning. Advise students about academic requirements and selection of courses. Review and interpret placement guidelines and standardized test scores. Assist students with learning how to interpret program evaluations. Understand graduation requirements for degree, diploma, and certificate programs. Assist students with the course registration process including teaching them to use Self-Service Student Planning. Assist students transferring to four-year institutions in understanding admission requirements and 4-year transfer guides. Assist with outreach communications to students regarding student resources, academic planning, college visits, and registration. Guide students through academic program exploration and major changes. Provide support to students with academic concerns including students on Academic Warning and Academic Probation. Serve as an academic advising resource for college faculty and staff including presentations to classes regarding academic planning. Maintain accurate records of interactions with students. Be a student advocate when appropriate. Disseminate information on institutional policies and procedures. Refer students to the appropriate specialized staff for issues such as comprehensive counseling, financial assistance, study abroad, etc. Participate in new student orientation. Stay abreast of changing institutional information including admissions requirements, new programs, course changes, deadlines, important dates, costs, etc. Engage in professional development activities. Participate in the Academic Advising Center's planning, implementation, and evaluation of goals and objectives. Participate in student services programs. Assist with annual college transfer fair and routine college visits.

QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
College policies and procedures regarding admission standards and educational program requirements. The concepts of adult learning. Purpose of academic advising. General educational requirements and academic grade and unit equivalents. Transfer requirements and procedures of regional four-year educational institutions. Business letter writing and basic report preparation. Principles and procedures of record keeping. Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment. English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Ability To:
Demonstrate excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills. Maintain an enthusiastic, energetic, and professional demeanor that is welcoming to students, faculty, and staff. Actively engage in team building and collaboration within the center and throughout the college. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Multi-task, troubleshoot problems, and create conflict resolutions with minimum supervision. Interpret and apply the policies and procedures of the college. Refer students to appropriate college staff for additional counseling, program advising, testing and related matters. Evaluate test scores and previous education and training. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work Interpret and apply CFCC goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for: Making observations Reading and writing Communicating with others Operating assigned equipment Handling varied tasks simultaneously Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following: Standing or sitting for extended periods of time Operating assigned equipment Handling varied tasks simultaneously Bending, stooping, climbing, or lifting up to 50 pounds Maintain mental capacity, which allow the capability of: Making sound decisions Responding to questions Demonstrating intellectual capabilities
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES

Minimum Education/Training:
Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited
College or University Minimum Experience :
One-year experience working with students in a community college or university setting.
Majors related to secondary or higher education 2 - 3+ years' experience working with students in a community college or university setting Special Instructions to
