Career Academy Teacher, Medical Academy

Job Description

Position is available for the 2021/2022 school year. Position will teach medical courses in our Career Academy with the intent of giving students an introduction into the medical field. Position is part-time. Hours are Monday-Friday from 11:00 am - 2:30 pm. We are looking for an RN or an individual with a medical/teaching background. Roles and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Career Academy Director, provides leadership in the development and implementation of a comprehensive career education program infused into the curriculum and provides related instruction in the classroom. Adapts as needed and implements standards-based units comprised of well-structured lessons with challenging tasks and measurable outcomes; appropriate student engagement strategies, pacing, sequence, resources, and grouping; purposeful questioning; and strategic use of technology and digital media; such that students are able to learn knowledge and skills defined in the state standards/local curricula. Organizes and analyzes results from a variety of assessments to determine progress toward intended outcomes and uses these findings to adjust practice and identify and/or implement appropriate differentiated interventions and enhancements for students. Based on assessment data, provides descriptive feedback to students, engages them in constructive conversation, and seeks feedback that focuses on how students can improve their performance. Consistently defines high expectations for the quality of student work and the perseverance and effort required to produce it; often provides exemplars, rubrics, and guided practice. Consistently uses instructional practices that are likely to motivate and engage most students in the content the lesson. Uses appropriate inclusive practices, such as tiered supports and scaffolded instruction, to accommodate differences in students' learning needs, abilities, interests, and levels of readiness, including those of academically advanced students, students with disabilities and English learners. Establishes an environment in which students demonstrate respect for and affirm their own (self-awareness) and others' (social awareness) differences related to background, identity, language, strengths, and challenges, and responds appropriately if/when conflicts or misunderstandings arise related to such differences. Regularly communicates with families about student performance and learning and invites and responds promptly to communications from families, while demonstrating understanding of and respect for different home languages, cultures, and values. Consistently and effectively collaborates with colleagues on a wide range of tasks such as implementing standards-based units and well-structured lessons, examining student work, analyzing student performance, and planning appropriate interventions. Oversees an advisory, and take part in grade level and content team meetings. Attend school wide professional development training Within and beyond the classroom, consistently reinforces school-wide behavior and learning expectations for all students, and contributes to their learning by sharing responsibility for meeting their needs. Consistently fulfills professional responsibilities; is consistently punctual and reliable with scheduled obligations, paperwork, duties, and assignments; maintains a positive work ethic; demonstrates flexibility and positivity in the face of new challenges Helps students explore their interests and abilities through a wide range of career awareness and assessment activities. Assists students in researching careers they are interested in and in discovering what careers would match their skills and personalities. Works with Career Academy Director and Adjunct Instructor(s) to assist students in selecting appropriate academic, career and technical education programs to help students reach their career goals. Helps students find information on post-secondary education and training opportunities. Based on assessments of student interest, researches possible partnership and collaborations that will support the Academies. Establishes partnerships with local area businesses that will support real world experiences for the career interests of students in the established Academies. Works cooperatively with Career Academy adjuncts and Career Academy Director in the planning and delivery of programs, projects and/or activities that focus on helping students to acquire appropriate workplace readiness skills, attitudes, and behaviors needed for successful employment and continuing education.
