Reports To:
Building Principal & GEAR UP Grant Coordinator
Job Goal:
To support 9th and 10th grade students participating in the GEAR UP program by promoting academic achievement, successful transition and persistence in high school, college and career readiness, financial literacy, and family engagement.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or other four-year college degree required.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to establish positive, professional relationships with high school students and families.
Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, counselors, administrators, support staff, families and community partners.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive student information appropriately.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple responsibilities, and follow through on assigned tasks.
Ability to use technology and common computer applications for communication, documentation, scheduling, and recordkeeping.
Ability to meet applicable District employment and background-check requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with high school students.
Experience in education, counseling, youth development, college and career readiness, or a related field.
Experience working with grant-funded programs or student support programs.
Knowledge of high school graduation requirements, college and career pathways, and postsecondary planning.
Experience coordinating student or family events.
Performance Responsibilities:
Monitor student grades, credits, attendance, missing assignments, and academic progress.
Identify students who may be at risk of course failure, credit deficiency, or falling behind academically.
Provide individual and small-group support to help students develop academic goals, organizational skills, and strategies for success.
Coordinate with the GEAR UP math tutor, teachers, counselors, administrators, and other school staff to address student needs.
Assist students in understanding graduation requirements, credit expectations, and other high school requirements.
Support students in successfully adjusting to the academic, social, and organizational expectations of high school.
Promote student engagement, attendance, persistence, and connection to school.
Provide students with opportunities to explore colleges, training programs, apprenticeships, careers, and other postsecondary pathways.
Assist students in identifying interests, strengths, and potential career pathways.
Plan and provide financial literacy activities and instruction.
Plan and coordinate GEAR UP family nights, parent/guardian events, workshops, and other engagement activities.
Assist with planning, scheduling, and coordinating GEAR UP activities and events.
Maintain accurate records of student participation, services, activities, and contacts as required by the GEAR UP grant.
Assist with collecting information and documentation needed for grant reporting and program evaluation.
Perform other duties as assigned
Terms of Employment:
17.5 hours per week
