The First Congregational Church of Ridgefield, Connecticut is hiring a Director of Children's Faith Formation. The role involves work with lay leaders to oversee and develop the well-established ministry of Christian education and faith formation for children in 6th Grade and below. This part time position averages 20 hours per week. Mid-June to mid-August are off with full pay! Ridgefield is a beautiful, quintessential New England town located 55 miles outside of New York City. We are a vibrant congregation with meaningful programs in Christian ministry, missions, music, outreach and fellowship. We view our Children and Youth programs as a critical part of our church's mission. Key Responsibilities Faith and Formation in
General:
Support Faith Formation and Christian Education for children in 6th Grade and below, including review and development of church's curriculum. Equip parents and extended family members as significant partners in faith formation, both at church and at home. Advocate for meaningful ways children can participate more fully in congregational worship. Develop opportunities for children to participate in Mission and community activities.
Volunteers:
Develop and resource teams of volunteers to support various aspects of children and family programming. Christian Formation for Children and their
Families:
Direct children's programs, including Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, the church's nursery, and the Children's Message during worship on Sunday's. Collaboration with other
Ministries:
Partner with Missions, Music, and Adult Ministries to facilitate developmental and intergenerational activities.
Administration:
Plan annual calendar, prepare annual budgets, work as integral member of staff team.
Professional Relationships and Development:
D evelop peer relationships and events with local Ridgefield faith communities, and with faith formation professionals and volunteers in other congregations in our United Church of Christ Conference.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education preferred, Seminary or divinity degree highly valued. Has at least 2 to 5 years of proven experience in children's ministry, Sunday School coordination, or a related educational role. Possesses a theological or extensive church membership background. Demonstrates a desire to be an integral and inspiring presence in the lives of children. Proven ability to recruit, train, and manage teams of volunteers. Salary based on experience and education.
