Job Description

Family Advocate American Indian Community Development Corporation • Saint Joseph, MN Minnesota NonProfits • August 18, 2026 The Hill Museum & Manuscript Library (HMML) is one of the world's leading organizations dedicated to preserving and sharing humanity's written heritage. Through global partnerships and cutting-edge digital preservation, HMML safeguards manuscripts, archives, and rare books that might otherwise be lost to conflict, political instability, or natural disaster. Since its founding in 1965, HMML has photographed more than 445,000 manuscripts while collaborating with over 800 libraries and cultural institutions across more than 40 countries, creating an unparalleled resource for scholars and future generations. Following its transition to an independent nonprofit in 2023, HMML is entering an exciting new phase of growth. This evolution creates an extraordinary opportunity for a fundraising leader to help shape the next chapter of one of the world's most respected cultural preservation organizations. The inaugural Chief Advancement Officer will join HMML at a defining moment in its history. Reporting directly to the Executive Director and serving as one of three senior executive leaders, the CAO will build and lead a comprehensive advancement program designed to fuel the organization's long-term strategic vision. This role offers the opportunity to build an advancement function with significant organizational support and momentum already in place. The Chief Advancement Officer will strengthen major and principal gift fundraising, diversify philanthropic revenue, oversee integrated advancement and communications functions, and develop compelling narratives that connect donors with the preservation of humanity's cultural heritage. With responsibility for leading a talented team, expanding national and international partnerships, and shaping the organization's philanthropic culture, the CAO will play a central role in ensuring that irreplaceable manuscripts, histories, and cultural traditions remain accessible for generations to come.
