Hope House, Inc., a non-profit domestic violence service agency, is currently seeking compassionate, reliable, and trauma-informed professionals to join our team as part-time or PRN Shelter Advocates.
Available shifts include:
Fridays 5pm-11pm Saturdays 5pm-11pm Weekdays during business hours Additional evening and weekend shifts as needed Shelter Advocates provide crisis intervention, support, and advocacy services directly to survivors of domestic violence who are residing in the emergency shelter facility or are calling the hotline.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Answer the 24-hour crisis hotline Provide immediate crisis intervention and safety planning to survivors Assist survivors filing orders of protection Foster a safe and welcoming community living environment Staff the shelter front desk and conduct intakes with new residents Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with quality and grant requirements
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in social work or related human services field OR relevant training and experience Valid driver's license, insurance, acceptable motor vehicle record, and reliable transportation Ability to obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certification
Preferred Qualifications:
Bilingual in English and Spanish Previous experience working with survivors of domestic violence Experience working in crisis response, advocacy, or customer service in high-stress environments
PHYSICAL/WORKING CONDITIONS
This position works on-site at our Independence campus. Shelter Advocates frequently interact with individuals in crisis and must be comfortable multi-tasking in a shelter environment. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee may occasionally lift and or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
