Applicants are encouraged to review K.S.A. 75-723, which provides an overview of ANE Unit responsibilities. The ANE Unit focuses on identifying, preventing, investigating, and prosecuting abuse committed against elders and dependent adults; the ANE Unit is additionally responsible for receiving notifications of abuse or neglect, and communicating with local law enforcement to ensure such notifications are received and investigated. The Program Consultant will have the primary responsibility for maintaining a database of all reports of elder/dependent adult abuse that are sent to any law enforcement agency across the state of Kansas. The ANE Unit receives reports of abuse from social services agencies such as the Department of Children and Families ( DCF ), the Kansas Department of Health & Environment ( KDHE ), and the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services ( KDADS ). The Program Consultant must input key information into the OAGs internal database and also ensure these reports were sent to the appropriate local law enforcement agency. The Program Consultant will log local law enforcement responses to alleged abuse or neglect, follow up to offer assistance, and provide resources for investigation and prosecution of elder/dependent adult abuse. The Program Consultant will also have responsibilities related to the OCA , an independent agency that receives and investigates complaints about child services agencies. The OCA will notify the ANE Unit about complaints involving potential criminal child abuse or neglect, and the Program Consultant will maintain a database of these notifications and law enforcement responses to the reports. This position requires data entry and database management. It is critical to the mission of the ANE Unit that the Program Consultant be able to work steadily and independently, with a high degree of accuracy. This position requires excellent communication skills, critical thinking skills, and a problem-solving attitude. The Program Consultant must routinely work with employees from social services agencies and law enforcement agencies across the state. A strong candidate will work well in a team environment and demonstrate interest and initiative for the continuous improvement of the work of the ANE Unit.

PRIMARY DUTIES

: Receive, review, and record reports of suspected elder/dependent adult abuse in the appropriate OAG database Prepare and send correspondence to local law enforcement agencies to assist in logging state-wide responses to elder/dependent abuse and OCA referrals; call and email local law enforcement as necessary to resolve reports Assist in preparing ANE Unit Annual Report Routinely review records of suspected elder/dependent adult abuse and OCA notifications for accuracy and completion Assist OAG Special Agents in obtaining records from social services agencies Respond to questions about ANE Unit capabilities from attorneys, law enforcement, and members of the public Route incoming reports of elder/dependent adult abuse and child abuse to the appropriate agency Travel as needed (funded by OAG ) to attend training and/or support the work of the ANE Unit. This might include occasionally attending training opportunities. Additional duties may be added at any time.
