We are seeking an entry level CAD/CAM Programmer / Drafter to join our custom millwork manufacturing team. This position is responsible for creating accurate shop drawings and CNC-ready programming that allows our production team to efficiently manufacture custom millwork, cabinetry, fixtures, and related products. The ideal candidate understands that a good shop drawing should provide the information a fabricator needs to build the product correctly without having to continually seek clarification. This role requires strong attention to detail, practical problem-solving skills, and the ability to translate architectural drawings, specifications, field dimensions, and project requirements into clear, buildable production information. Responsibilities Create and develop detailed shop and production drawings using Vectorworks . Prepare CNC programs and machine-ready files using Mastercam . Prepare detailed shop drawings for custom architectural millwork, cabinetry, casework, fixtures, and related products. Review architectural drawings, specifications, sketches, and project information to determine fabrication requirements. Create accurate dimensions, sections, details, material callouts, hardware information, and assembly information for shop and customer approval drawings. Revise drawings based on customer, architect, project manager, or production feedback. Optimize parts, machining operations, and material usage where appropriate. Verify drawings and CNC programs for accuracy before releasing them to production. Work closely with project managers, production personnel, and machine operators to resolve design or fabrication questions. Incorporate field dimensions and approved changes into production drawings. Maintain organized drawing files, revisions, and project documentation. Identify potential fabrication problems before material reaches the shop floor. Support continuous improvement of drafting, programming, and production processes. Qualifications CAD drafting experience in cabinetry, architectural millwork, woodworking, or a related manufacturing environment. Experience with Vectorworks preferred ; experience with comparable professional CAD software will also be considered. Experience with Mastercam or comparable CAM/CNC programming software strongly preferred . Familiarity with Microvellum desired. Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, elevations, sections, details, and specifications. Strong understanding of dimensions, tolerances, construction methods, and manufacturing processes. Ability to visualize how components fit together and how a product will actually be fabricated and assembled. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Good organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities. Ability to communicate effectively with project managers, shop personnel, and other employees. Comfortable asking questions when information is incomplete while also being able to independently identify and resolve routine drafting and fabrication issues. Must be competent speaking, reading, and understanding English. Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their work and understands that the quality of the drawings and programming directly affects the efficiency of the shop. A successful candidate will produce drawings that are clear, complete, accurate, and buildable and will think beyond simply reproducing architectural drawings. We value someone who can anticipate the questions a fabricator or CNC operator is likely to have and address those questions before the project reaches production.
Pay:
$30.00 - $36.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 - 50.0 per week
