Job Description

The Information Technology Department at Thaddeus Stevens College is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Student Intern to support various IT initiatives. This position provides hands-on experience in a dynamic environment, offering the opportunity to enhance technical skills, gain insight into IT operations, and contribute to projects that improve campus technology services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide desktop support, assisting students and staff with hardware and software troubleshooting, and addressing IT-related issues.
  • Support the setup, configuration, and deployment of computer workstations and peripherals for faculty and students.
  • Conduct software and hardware installations, ensuring all systems are operational and up-to-date.
  • Offer support for printers and mobile devices, addressing connectivity and functionality issues.
  • Assist with cabling runs and terminations to maintain reliable network connectivity.
  • Set up and tear down technical requests from college staff for events and meetings.
  • Aid in the implementation of IT projects, including software upgrades and system migrations.
  • Provide technical support for campus-wide technology initiatives and events.
  • Collaborate with team members to document processes, create user guides, and update the IT knowledge base.
  • Participate in training sessions for staff and students on new technology tools and resources.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute ideas for improving IT services.
  • Document processes, create user guides, and update the IT knowledge base.
  • Maintain inventory of IT equipment and supplies.
  • Assist with routine system backups and monitoring of network performance.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not include supervisory responsibilities but may involve mentoring other interns or new student staff. Required Knowledge, Skills, and/or
Abilities:
  • Basic understanding of computer systems, networks, and software applications.
  • Familiarity with troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.
Education and/or
Work Experience Requirements:
  • Current enrollment in a degree program related to Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in an IT support role or relevant coursework is preferred but not required.
  • Currently enrolled at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology
  • In good academic standing (minimum GPA of 2.5)
  • Able to work 10-20 hours per week during academic semesters
  • Able to work at least 20 hours a week during the summer between freshman and sophomore year Work Environment and/or
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • The work environment is typically an office setting within the college campus.
  • Occasional lifting of equipment (up to 25 pounds) may be required.
  • Some work may involve sitting for extended periods or using a computer.
