Responsibilities Safely operate school buses, transit buses, or paratransit vehicles according to established routes and schedules. Ensure passenger safety by following all transportation safety regulations, traffic laws, and vehicle codes. Assist students with boarding and exiting the vehicle, including providing wheelchair assistance when needed. Maintain discipline and manage student behavior to ensure a safe and respectful environment onboard. Conduct pre-trip inspections, monitor vehicle conditions, and perform emergency stop procedures as necessary. Respond quickly to traffic changes or emergencies with appropriate action, including emergency response procedures for transportation incidents. Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers using clear English or multilingual skills when applicable. Complete detailed reports on routes, incidents, or safety concerns while maintaining accurate records of daily operations. Uphold transportation safety regulations and school policies at all times to ensure passenger safety and compliance. Support senior care or special needs students by providing compassionate assistance during transit. Qualifications Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for school bus or transit vehicle operation. Proven experience in bus driving, school bus driving, or transit bus operation preferred. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, emergency response procedures for transportation, and student discipline strategies. First aid certification and CPR training are highly desirable to respond effectively in emergencies. Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting passengers or handling equipment safely. Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for diverse communities. Experience working with children or seniors demonstrates patience and excellent behavior management skills. Familiarity with transportation safety regulations, school policy knowledge, and quick response to traffic changes ensures smooth daily operations.
