Member, TC Food Justice Board of Directors About Twin Cities Food Justice TC Food Justice is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Minneapolis. Since March 2016, we have been working with co-ops, grocery stores, farmers, and markets to re-distribute their unsalable foods to local hunger relief organizations. We focus on vegetables, fruits, and nutrient rich breads because hunger relief organizations often find it challenging to consistently provide fresh food options for their clients. We seek to improve food insecure individuals' access to fresh, nutritious food. Our Mission The mission of TCFJ is to build a more just and equitable community by eliminating hunger and food waste using environmentally sustainable practices. TCFJ envisions a well-fed community founded in mutual aid, trust, and service. We approach our work with a commitment to dignity and respecting the diversity of life experiences and identities, a focus on eliminating systemic food inequity, and a promise to gain ongoing insight from our stakeholders through transparency, partnership, and engagement. Reports to : Board Chair Start date : Onboarding will take place at the beginning of the new term beginning January 1, 2027.

Role :

Serve as a voting member of the board of directors for TC Food Justice. Ensure the organization achieves its mission of reducing food waste and hunger in the Twin Cities, and oversee the activities of the organization. The member will provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by TC Food Justice's Executive Director, the Board-Executive Director relationship is a collaborative partnership to ensure long term success and health of the organization. Board members are encouraged to actively participate in the operations of TCFJ and cover food rescue shifts as available and needed.

Payment :

Service on TC Food Justice's Board of Directors is without compensation outside of specific reimbursable expenses.

Qualifications :

Board members must have a demonstrated commitment to or interest in one or more of the core values of the organization. Core values of the organization include: Improving health through increased access to nutrient rich food, especially among food insecure individuals, Executing our work with environmentally sustainable mechanisms, and Engaging the Twin Cities community in the issues of food waste, food insecurity and hunger. Professional experience with leadership accomplishments in the non-profit, human/social services, business, government, or philanthropy arenas; prior board services a plus. An understanding of the impact of hunger, food insecurity and poverty on individuals, families and the community.

Expertise Desired :

In an effort to expand our board and strengthen the long-term health of TC Food Justice, we're bringing on 3-to-4 new board members. We're prioritizing individuals that can speak to one or more of the following experiences to help guide the non-profit: Human Resources and Staff oversight Fundraising Program planning, management and implementation Finance / accounting Public health Organization scaling and growth

Term :

Board members are appointed for a 2-year term. Terms run on a cycle beginning January 1 and ending December 31 of the calendar year. If a board member wishes to renew their term, they may do so pending board approval. After 4 terms are served consecutively, a board member may reapply to serve on the board only after they take at least a term length break. Time expectations : Participate in regularly scheduled board meetings, generally 2 hours long, held bi-monthly as well as serve on at least one Board committee. Board members are expected to attend at least 75% of board meetings each year and to be available for consultation. Approximately 4-6 hours per month outside of scheduled board meetings (e.g. fundraising, committee meetings, attending events, meetings), as outlined below. Activities and obligations : Abide by the bylaws and policies of the organization Fully understand and support the mission of TC Food Justice Fully understand the programs and services of TC Food Justice Assist in hiring, supervising, and evaluating the Executive Director Develop and/or monitor short and long-range planning and goals Keep up to date on relevant developments in the hunger relief and food rescue field Bring personal/professional expertise and that of others to support the mission of TC Food Justice as a guiding hand Suggest possible nominees to the board who can make significant contributions to the work of the board and the organization Represent the organization to the public and private sector; serve as an advocate for the organization Assist the board in carrying out its fiduciary responsibilities such as reviewing the organization's financial statements and approving the annual budget; ensuring effective fiscal controls and accountability; monitoring the organization's financial performance Reviewing agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings Partnering with the Executive Director and other board members to ensure that board resolutions are carried out Serving on committees or task forces and taking on special assignments as needed Representing TC Food Justice to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization Board members will assume an active role in fund raising by providing leadership as well as soliciting donations to support the financial health of the organization and fulfill the organization's mission To apply, please submit a resume to admin@tcfoodjustice.org by Sunday, Oct. 18, 2026.
