The Appraisal Review Board (ARB) of Harris County is seeking qualified Harris County residents to serve as ARB Members. The ARB is a citizen board made up of Harris County residents who sit in panels of three to hear testimony, review evidence, and determine property owner protests that cannot be resolved administratively by Harris Central Appraisal District (HCAD) staff. This is a unique opportunity for individuals who are fair-minded, professional, comfortable reviewing information and evidence, and interested in serving the Harris County community. What You'll Do As an ARB Member, you will: Serve on three-member panels to hear property owner protests Listen objectively to testimony from property owners and HCAD representatives Review documents, evidence, and other information presented during hearings Ask appropriate questions to clarify the information presented Make fair, impartial, and independent decisions based on the evidence Follow applicable laws, procedures, and ARB guidelines Maintain professionalism and impartiality throughout the hearing process Schedule & Availability - Please Read Carefully Although ARB hearings are held throughout the year, this opportunity requires a significant time commitment during peak hearing season, typically from mid-May through October. Hearing Location & Work Setting Most property owners choose to have their hearings conducted in person. Therefore, ARB Members will be required to serve in person at the

In rare instances, the ARB may request that an ARB Member conduct virtual hearings using their personal computer through electronic platforms such as WebEx or Zoom. Who We're Looking For This opportunity may be a great fit for individuals who: Are Harris County residents Have the flexibility to meet the required ARB schedule and availability Are available for mandatory training and meetings Enjoy staying active and involved in their community Can listen to different perspectives and remain objective Have strong communication, critical-thinking, and decision-making skills Are dependable, professional, and able to maintain impartiality Are comfortable reviewing documents, testimony, and evidence Are comfortable using basic computer technology Can work effectively as part of a three-member panel Individuals from a variety of professional and community backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Important Information About ARB Service If selected, you will be appointed to serve a term as a regular member of the Appraisal Review Board. ARB Members are not employees of the Harris Central Appraisal District and are not eligible for employee benefits by virtue of their review board service. Appointment is contingent upon the successful completion of a satisfactory background investigation. Candidates selected for an interview will be contacted via email to schedule an appointment. Interviews are conducted in person at the Harris Central Appraisal District. Due to the high volume of applications received, the ARB Department will contact candidates directly should they be selected to advance in the recruitment process.
