Job Description

Car Buyer Pay:
$70,000 - $200,000+ per year Company Overview Clutch buys and sells luxury, exotic, and high-end vehicles nationwide, both wholesale and retail. We're built on deep automotive expertise, strong industry relationships, and a personalized approach, since no two deals are exactly the same. We're always looking to raise the bar on how we do business, whether through technology, process, or new market opportunities. Position Summary We're looking for an experienced Car Buyer to join our team, focused on vehicle acquisition from day one: evaluating, appraising, negotiating, and purchasing vehicles from consumers, dealerships, brokers, auctions, and other sources. Previous professional experience appraising and purchasing vehicles is required. You should be able to accurately value a car, negotiate confidently, and make sound buying decisions with profitability in mind. Strong knowledge of the automotive market is essential, especially luxury, exotic, and higher-end vehicles. We're looking for someone motivated, decisive, and detail-oriented, who can manage multiple purchasing opportunities in a fast-paced environment. Over time, the role may grow to include some retail sales work, but the immediate need is a strong buyer who can start sourcing and purchasing vehicles right away. Key Responsibilities Evaluate, appraise, negotiate, and purchase vehicles from consumers, dealerships, brokers, auctions, and other automotive sources. Determine vehicle values based on condition, mileage, history, options, market data, comparable vehicles, and wholesale and retail potential. Monitor market values, auction activity, pricing trends, and demand to make informed buying decisions. Evaluate vehicle condition and history, including reconditioning or other costs that impact value and profitability. Generate competitive offers, negotiate pricing and terms, and make timely buying decisions within company guidelines. Build and maintain a pipeline of acquisition opportunities through lead follow-up, outbound activity, networking, and industry relationships. Build strong relationships with consumers, dealers, brokers, wholesalers, auctions, and other industry professionals. Coordinate inspections, transportation, titles, payoffs, and documentation to complete transactions. Manage multiple active purchases, leads, and offers while keeping accurate records and consistent communication. Occasionally assist with wholesale and retail sales opportunities as they arise, while meeting purchasing volume and profitability goals. Required Qualifications Previous professional experience as a Car Buyer, Used Car Buyer, Vehicle Acquisition Specialist, Automotive Appraiser, Used Car Manager, Wholesale Buyer, or similar role. Proven experience independently appraising, negotiating, and purchasing used vehicles for a dealership or automotive business. Strong knowledge of vehicle makes, models, trims, options, values, and market trends. Strong understanding of vehicle valuation, wholesale and retail markets, auction values, and profitability factors. Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills. Highly organized and detail-oriented, able to manage multiple transactions in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience purchasing through multiple channels: consumers, dealerships, brokers, and auctions. Experience purchasing inventory in a high-volume or wholesale dealership environment. Established relationships with dealers, brokers, auctions, or other industry professionals. Strong knowledge of luxury, exotic, performance, and higher-end vehicles. Some wholesale or retail sales experience is a plus, but not required. Why Join Clutch? You'll work across the luxury and exotic automotive market, gain exposure to unique inventory and a broad industry network, and have room to grow into the retail side of the business over time. As Clutch grows, so do the opportunities to build your career here.
