Job Description:
Position Summary:
The Program / Advanced Procurement Buyer serves as the procurement program lead, connecting Sales, Program Management, Engineering, and Commodity Management. Owns BOM cost, RFx coordination, and program execution to support competitive quotes and profitable launches. Enables Commodity Management to negotiate effectively through accurate data, clear requirements, and aligned program inputs.
Responsibilities of Position:
Act as the primary procurement interface for Sales, Program Management, and Engineering Own BOM cost roll-up; track cost-to-target, program profitability and savings by program and commodity Prepare and issue
RFQs:
obtain drawings, validate specifications, and ensure complete RFQ packages for Commodity Management Coordinate RFx activities and requotes; ensure accuracy, timing, and alignment with program needs Align with Commodity Management on sourcing strategy (no direct supplier selection or negotiation ownership) Enable effective negotiations by providing volumes, technical data, timelines, and commercial context Lead procurement support for quoting, sales kick-offs, and program reviews Maintain strong understanding of product lines, target customers, and commercial priorities Coordinate cross-functional inputs (BOM, specs, volumes, timing) to ensure quote accuracy and competitiveness Manage change requests through SOP +90; track and align cost and timing impacts Own communication of program cancellations and extensions to suppliers Partner with Commodity Management on program extensions to drive improved pricing and cost performance Track sourcing status, ensure data integrity, and communicate risks and opportunities Support cost improvement initiatives and requotes on awarded programs
Skill Requirements:
Strong understanding of BOM structures, costing, and program financials Experience preparing RFQs and working closely with commodity/category teams Ability to translate technical drawings/specifications into sourcing requirements Strong cross-functional coordination and project management skills Commercial acumen: able to articulate profitability, cost drivers, and savings Advanced Excel and data analysis skills; ERP experience preferred (SAP, Oracle, AS400, etc.) Clear communication skills with ability to influence without direct authority
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering or related field. 5+ years of progressive automotive direct materials purchasing experience. Interest or experience in working with global suppliers or supporting cross-regional activities
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work at a personal computer for extended periods of time. Ability to travel as needed.
