  • 30 per Hour | Kansas City, MO We are seeking a Buyer / Planner for a full-time, temp-to-hire opportunity with an established manufacturing operation in Kansas City.
This role is ideal for someone with 1-3 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, material planning, supply chain, or inventory management, preferably within a manufacturing environment. The Buyer / Planner will help ensure materials and components are purchased and available when needed to keep production running efficiently. The position requires regular supplier communication, purchase-order management, material shortage resolution, inventory planning, and close coordination with internal operations teams. Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze daily production and material requirements to determine purchasing needs.
  • Create and manage purchase orders to support production schedules.
  • Review MRP/material requirements and ensure necessary components are ordered.
  • Monitor open purchase orders and maintain accurate supplier delivery dates through acknowledgements and ongoing communication.
  • Communicate regularly with suppliers regarding orders, lead times, shortages, pricing, and delivery schedules.
  • Expedite materials when necessary to prevent production delays.
  • Track material shortages and provide status updates to production, sales, service, and other departments.
  • Monitor inventory and stocking levels to maintain targeted service levels while minimizing excess inventory.
  • Maintain and update backlog and material status reports.
  • Communicate expected delivery information for customer and production requirements.
  • Review excess and obsolete inventory and recommend appropriate disposition.
  • Investigate supplier, inventory, and material availability issues and perform root cause analysis.
  • Work closely with Production, Supply Chain, Quality, Engineering, Customer Service, and other departments to improve material flow and service levels. Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of purchasing, procurement, buyer/planner, material planning, supply chain, or related experience.
  • Manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience creating and managing purchase orders.
  • Experience communicating directly with vendors and suppliers.
  • Familiarity with MRP and/or ERP systems strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of inventory levels, material requirements, lead times, and production schedules.
  • Strong Excel and general Microsoft Office skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
