General Summary/Responsibilities:

Facility:
Upper Valley Medical Center The Buyer works under the direct oversight of the Pharmacy Business Manager as well as the site-specific pharmacy management team. The Buyer purchases pharmaceuticals, adhering to contracts, maintaining appropriate inventory control, managing backorders to avoid stock-outs, and minimizing unnecessary costs for approximately 3,000 different stocked medications. Lawson approval authority for invoices is $25,000. The buyer also tracks patient assistance program medications, manages drug recalls, maintains complete and organized records, and coordinates the annual inventory with Internal Audit. The buyer oversees expired medications and the reverse distributor for return of such. Buyer is responsible for maintaining all records required under the Drug Supply Chain Security Act. If assigned site is part of the 340B program, ensures purchasing is performed under the correct accounts per strick program requirements; assists 340B Coordinator with monitoring split billing software accumulations, and avoidance of unnecessary WAC purchases.
Qualifications Education Minimum Level of Education Required:
High School completion / GED Additional requirements:
  • Preferred educational qualifications: Completion of an ASHP/ACPE-accredited technician education and training program, Associate's degree in Business
  • Licensure/Certification/Registration
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
  • Registration with the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a "Certified Pharmacy Technician" or eligible for registration within 45 days of hire.
Experience Minimum Level of Experience Required:
1 - 3 years of job-related experience Prior job title or occupational experience: Pharmacy Technician, Certified Prior specific functional responsibilities: Minimum of 2 years of pharmacy experience with working knowledge of inventory management principles Preferred experience: Minimum of 1 year experience with pharmaceutical purchasing. Prior experience with 340B Other experience requirements: N/A Knowledge/Skills
  • Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified time periods.
  • Able to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule
  • Set priorities and problem solve
  • Able to respond quickly to emergency requests
  • Basic pharmaceutical knowledge - dosage forms, brand/generic nomenclature, product availability
  • Knowledge of the 340B program.
  • Knowledge of organizational goals and regulatory requirements
  • Possess good interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and problem solving skills
  • Able to read and write printed material in English
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and computers
  • Must be familiar with pharmacy software
  • Must be customer service oriented
  • Possess ability to work well with other health care workers and perform as team member
  • Flexibility in scheduling essential as mentor/trainer of new coworkers
