Job Description

MRO Purchasing Agent About W. Silver Recycling W. Silver Recycling, Inc. (WSR) operates a highly complex, fast-paced B2B by-products management model servicing major manufacturers and industrial sources across the US and Mexico. We are driven by our Hedgehog concept: to be the most efficient scrap operator in North America. We run processing facilities across along the US-Mexico border, in Mexico, and are headquartered in El Paso, TX. Efficiency is not a slogan here. It shows up in how we run our equipment, how we manage cost per ton, and in the expectation that people own the results of their area.
The Role:
The MRO Purchasing Agent keeps our plants and equipment supplied — parts, consumables, fluids, shop supplies and outside services — at the right cost and on the right timeline. Most of this work is steady and routine: knowing what the maintenance teams need before they ask, keeping stocked items on the shelf, holding vendors to their quoted pricing and lead times, and finding better ways to buy the same part. Some days will involve a machine down and a part that has to move today. Those days matter, but they are not the job. The job is making those days rare and keeping maintenance spend under control the rest of the time.
What You Will Do:
Day-to-day purchasing. Process requisitions and purchase orders for maintenance parts, consumables, lubricants and fluids, shop supplies, PPE and outside repair services across our facilities. Cost control. Track what we pay item by item, compare vendors, consolidate spend where it earns better pricing, and bring cost reduction ideas forward without being asked. Inventory. Set and maintain min/max levels on wear parts and consumables so the shelf has what the mechanics need without tying up cash in parts we do not use. Vendor management. Build and hold relationships with suppliers on both sides of the border. Hold them to quoted pricing, lead times and quality, and develop local machining, hose, cylinder rebuild and fabrication sources in the El Paso/Juárez region. Equipment support. Source parts for mobile equipment (material handlers, loaders, excavators), stationary processing equipment (shears, balers, shredders), hydraulic systems and diesel-powered units, working directly with mechanics and plant managers on specifications. Records and reporting. Keep purchase, receipt and parts usage records accurate in our systems, and report monthly on MRO spend by facility and by equipment. Larger purchases. Support quoting on major repairs and capital items. What We Are Looking For Experience. Three or more years in purchasing or supply chain in an industrial setting — heavy equipment fleets, manufacturing, maquiladora operations, mining, construction or recycling. Mechanical understanding. Enough to hold a real conversation with a mechanic or a vendor about a part, read a parts diagram, and recognize when a quote does not match what was asked for. Language. Fully bilingual in English and Spanish, in writing and on the phone. Systems. Comfortable working in an ERP and a maintenance system for purchase orders, inventory and spend reporting. AI tools. Habits. Organized and persistent. Follows up, closes loops, and keeps commitments to the plants. What Success Looks Like in
Year One:
  • The mechanics get what they need without chasing you.
  • MRO spend per ton comes down, and you can show where and why.
  • Fewer emergency buys and less expedited freight.
  • A vendor base that answers the phone and honors its quotes.
