Job Description
Procurement Assistant Full‑time | Permanent | Vermont Join Hewitt Foods USA as a Procurement Assistant and play a key role in supporting purchasing, inventory management, and vendor coordination activities for raw materials, packaging, and supplies used in protein production. Reporting to the Procurement Manager, you will help ensure production requirements are met while maintaining accurate records, food safety standards, and supplier compliance. About the Role As a Procurement Assistant, you will support the day-to-day procurement and inventory operations that keep our production facilities running efficiently. Working closely with Procurement, Production, Quality Assurance, Warehouse, Scheduling, and Planning teams, you'll help ensure materials are available when needed, inventory records remain accurate, and supplier relationships are maintained. Key Responsibilities Assist with creating and managing purchase orders, inventory transfers, and procurement records. Track deliveries and maintain accurate vendor and purchasing information within company systems. Support supplier communications regarding orders, deliveries, discrepancies, and documentation. Conduct inventory counts, assist with reconciliations, and monitor stock levels to support production requirements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure materials are available to meet production schedules. Maintain traceability, food safety, and regulatory compliance documentation, including HACCP and USDA requirements. About You You are highly organised, detail-oriented, and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where accuracy matters. You take pride in maintaining records, following established processes, and supporting operational success through effective communication and collaboration. You are proactive, dependable, and eager to learn while contributing positively to a team-focused culture. Experience in food manufacturing or supply chain operations is advantageous, but a willingness to learn and develop is equally important. You Will Bring 1-2 years' experience in procurement, inventory, supply chain support, or a related administrative function, ideally within food manufacturing. Strong organisational skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and general computer systems. Experience working with ERP, procurement, or inventory management systems is desirable. Valid driver's licence and flexibility to support sister production facilities when required. High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred. Work Environment This is a full-time position based primarily in an office environment with regular interaction on the production floor. Occasional overtime may be required to support business needs. The production environment may involve exposure to cold temperatures (approximately 40°F), slippery floors, loud equipment, raw and cooked product handling, cleaning chemicals, and sharp tools.
