Job Description
Vice President, Fleet & Transportation Operations Atlanta, GA Executive responsible for the end-to-end performance of driver operations, dedicated contract carriage, and fleet maintenance across assigned regions. This role provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and financial accountability for a multi-site, asset-based transportation network. The VP drives performance through regional leadership teams, ensuring best-in-class execution in safety, service, cost control, asset utilization, and employee engagement. The position reports to the COO and requires a leader who combines strong executive presence and business acumen with sufficient operational and maintenance fluency to effectively lead and challenge regional directors and technical teams. Core Responsibilities Enterprise Leadership & Strategy
- Provide executive leadership across driver and maintenance operations
- Translate corporate strategy into clear operating plans, KPIs, and execution frameworks
- Partner with the COO and senior leadership on growth initiatives, acquisitions, and new business development
- Serve as a key contributor to enterprise-wide operational strategy and performance improvement Operational & Financial Performance
- Full P&L ownership across multiple regions, locations, and customer operations
- Drive performance against safety, service, cost, and productivity metrics
- Monitor labor, materials, maintenance, and transportation costs to identify trends and drive improvement
- Ensure consistent delivery of best-in-class service and on-time performance
- Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and ongoing financial performance management Driver Operations & Dedicated Contract Carriage
- Oversee assigned driver operations and DCC accounts, ensuring service exceeds customer expectations
- Lead transportation planning, staffing strategies, and peak season execution
- Manage carrier utilization and outside vendor relationships
- Maintain strong customer engagement, including strategic business reviews and contract management
- Support pricing, design, and implementation of new business opportunities and startups Fleet Maintenance & Asset Management
- Provide executive oversight of fleet maintenance operations, asset lifecycle management, and equipment strategy (specifications, procurement strategy, and vendor partnerships)
- Guide regional maintenance leaders without requiring deep technical execution involvement
- Ensure optimization of preventative maintenance programs to maximize uptime and control cost
- Champion adoption of technology and data-driven maintenance practices Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
- Drive a safety-first culture across all operations
- Ensure full compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and all regulatory requirements
- Review accidents, injuries, and CSA metrics to implement corrective actions
- Oversee audits across safety, maintenance, and operational compliance People Leadership & Organizational Development
- Lead, coach, and develop regional directors, general managers, and functional leaders
- Foster a high-performance, accountable, and collaborative leadership culture
- Establish clear goals, scorecards, and development plans for management teams

on talent development, succession planning, and labor relations, including union environments- Foster a culture of engagement, inclusion, and continuous improvement Process Excellence & Standardization
- Drive implementation and adherence to standard operating procedures across all locations
- Identify and scale best practices across regions
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, cost reduction, and service quality
- Utilize data, KPIs, and analytics to drive decision-making and accountability Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in transportation, logistics, or fleet-based operations
- Strong executive presence with the ability to influence at all levels internally and externally
- Strong financial, analytical, and strategic planning capabilities
- Proven success leading multi-site operations with full P&L accountability
- Demonstrated ability to lead operational functions through senior leaders
- Experience with Dedicated Contract Carriage and/or asset-based transportation models
- Solid understanding of fleet maintenance operations and asset management principles (strategic, not hands-on)
- Experience managing in unionized environments preferred
- Track record of building and developing high-performing management teams
