Head of Surety
Job Description
Head of Surety at Corgi Head of Surety at Corgi in Wood Dale, Illinois Posted in 3 minutes ago.
Type:
full-time Corgi | Chicago (in office) | Surety Operations $175,000 - $300,000 base + equity About Corgi Corgi is an AI-first property and casualty insurance carrier backed by Y Combinator (S24). We're building a surplus lines carrier from the ground up: our own paper, our own forms, our own rating, and software that gets a policy bound in hours instead of weeks. Surety is our next line. We already have clients asking us for bonds, and we need someone who can build the operation that delivers them. About the Role As Head of Surety, you'll build and run Corgi's surety operation end to end. You'll get our bond forms finalized, keep us compliant with each state's surety rules, lead our state-by-state surety filings, and stand up the processes that take a bond from request to issued. This is an operations seat, not an underwriting seat: you make sure the surety program works, in every state, every time. This is a builder role on a small, fast-moving team. There is no surety department to inherit. You'll design one. What You'll Do Build and maintain the bond form library across license and permit, commercial, and contract bonds, including obligee-specific forms, riders, and indemnity agreements, and drive every form to final.
Own the state-by-state surety rulebook:
what each state and obligee requires for bond forms, rates, filings, and acceptance, and make sure every bond we issue follows it.
Lead state-by-state surety filings:
plan them, assemble the packages, submit them, and drive objections to approval. Run surety operations day to day: bond requests, issuance, powers of attorney, riders, renewals, cancellations, and the records behind each one. Coordinate the approvals and listings we need to write larger and public work bonds, and keep every certificate and appointment current. Work with SWEs to automate bond issuance and servicing so small commercial bonds move at software speed. Support risk and portfolio management across the surety book: track bonds in force, exposure by principal and obligee, and collateral held, and keep underwriting and leadership looking at the same numbers. Build and lead the surety operations team as the book grows. Who You Are 5+ years in surety operations, bond administration, or surety compliance at a carrier or agency. You know license and permit, commercial, and contract bonds, and what obligees expect from each. You've run bond forms, filings, or state compliance across many states, and you can show us how you tracked it. You enjoy building on a small, fast-moving team. If your instinct is to schedule a meeting about scheduling a meeting, this isn't the right fit. Nice to Have (Not Required) Experience standing up a surety program or a new bond class. Contract surety experience, including federal and public work bonds. Customs bond experience. Experience working closely with SWEs. AFSB, CPCU, or a similar designation. Why Join Ground Floor Ownership. You're not one of 40 surety operations staff at a carrier where every change goes to committee. You build and run the surety operation from day one, and meaningful early-stage equity reflects that. Build It From Zero. Build the surety operation, the playbook, and the team from the ground up. Speed. Work directly with founders and SWEs who can ship what you design, fast. What you design becomes working product, not a PDF in a shared drive. Founder-Led Culture. Many on the team are ex-founders. We care about results, ownership, and hunger. Your title matters less than what you ship.
