The Executive Director serves as the senior leader responsible for leading the mission and upholding its excellence of care and sustaining its ongoing positive educational impact for children and families in the community. The successful Center Director builds high-performing culture where children thrive, educators grow professionally, families feel connected, and operational excellence supports long-term success. The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management, performance, and sustainability across two sites. Reporting to the Board of Directors / Executive Committee, this role provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure organizational excellence in program quality, staff leadership, financial stewardship, community relationships, and organizational culture. The Executive Director leads the organization's staff team through a multi-site leadership structure and is responsible for ensuring that Centers operate safely, effectively, and in alignment with the Center's mission, values, and standards for high-quality early childhood education. This role oversees key functional leaders, including site Center Directors, Human Resources, Operations, and other shared leadership functions, while partnering with the Board, third-party support entities, donors, licensing entities, and community stakeholders. The Executive Director is expected to build a high-performing, mission-driven culture; strengthen systems and accountability; support financial health and long-term sustainability of this nonprofit organization; and position the organization as a trusted leader in early childhood education.
Responsibilities:
Organizational Leadership & Strategy Provide overall leadership in alignment with the organization's mission and values. Evolve strategic priorities based on recent expansion into a multi-site organization. Partner with board on strategic planning by defining clear organizational priorities with effective operational plans, measurable objectives, and strong organizational outcomes. Lead implementation of the organization's multi-site structure, ensuring clarity of roles, accountability, and communication. Promote a high-performance culture grounded in collaboration, professionalism, continuous improvement, and strong relationships. Identify opportunities to innovate and improve systems, strengthen service delivery, and support long-term sustainability. Regularly assess organizational needs, risks, and opportunities, and recommend strategic or operational adjustments to the Board / Executive Committee. Maintain clear and consistent policies and procedures across both broader Center governance and day-to-day onsite operations. Multi-Site Staff Leadership & Culture Directly supervise and support key leaders, including: Center Directors Operations Finance Human Resources Family Engagement / Enrollment Community Engagement Education / Curriculum Program Quality & Organizational Excellence Ensure the organization delivers high-quality early childhood education and care across both sites. Partner with Center Directors and Education/Curriculum leadership to maintain strong instructional quality, child outcomes, and family experiences. Support consistent implementation of developmentally appropriate practices, organizational pedagogy, and program standards. Use data, observations, and operational reports to support effectiveness and drive continuous improvement. Ensure organizational decisions consistently reflect the educational ethos of the Center, and the best interests of children, families, staff, and the community. Operations, Compliance, Licensing & Risk Management Oversee multi-site operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant Center environments. Ensure adherence to all applicable local, state, and federal requirements, including childcare licensing and regulatory expectations. Partner with Center Directors and Operations leadership to monitor facility needs, safety practices, staffing coverage, and operational readiness. Oversee organizational policies, procedures, and internal controls to support consistency and accountability. Support accreditation, quality improvement, and regulatory readiness efforts across Centers. Identify operational risks and lead proactive planning to protect the organization, its staff, children, and families. Crisis Management Lead organizational response to critical incidents, emergencies, and operational disruptions, alongside site Center directors and other staff, ensuring timely decision-making, effective communication, business continuity, and the safety of children, families, and staff. Financial Leadership & Stewardship Lead and oversee the financial health of the organization in partnership with the Board / Executive Committee and outsourced accounting support. Develop, monitor, and manage the annual operating budget, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and long-term sustainability. Review financial statements, cash flow, revenue and expense trends, enrollment performance, and staffing costs to guide decision-making. Ensure financial systems, reporting practices, and internal controls support strong stewardship and accountability. Work closely with the outsourced accounting firm on budgeting, reporting, audits, compliance, and financial planning. Identify financial risks and opportunities and recommend corrective action or investment strategies as needed. Support revenue growth and sustainability through strong enrollment management, operational efficiency, fundraising partnership, and donor stewardship. Board Partnership & Governance Support Serve as the primary staff liaison to the Board of Directors / Executive Committee. Provide timely and accurate updates on organizational performance, financial health, staffing, compliance, strategic priorities, and emerging issues. Partner with board leadership on strategic planning, policy development, and defining organizational priorities. Support the Board in fulfilling its governance responsibilities by delivering comprehensive and action-oriented Board reports with recommendations, effectively refining and distilling key metrics and information for review and decision-making. Maintain clear boundaries between governance and operations while building a strong and collaborative board-staff relationship. Community & External Relations Build and maintain positive relationships with families, donors, educational institutions, community organizations, regulatory agencies, and licensing groups. Strengthen partnerships that support the organization's visibility, reputation, enrollment, fundraising, and community impact. Engage with external stakeholders to advance the Center's mission and reinforce its role as a high-quality early childhood education provider in the Corning area. Support donor cultivation, community engagement, and other external-facing efforts in partnership with the Board and organizational leadership. Family & Community Experience Champion a welcoming, responsive, and relationship-centered experience for children and families across both sites. Guide Center staff on strong communication practices and family engagement systems. Ensure the organization remains attentive and responsive to the needs of the communities it serves. Promote a culture in which families are viewed as essential partners in children's learning and development.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in business administration, nonprofit management, education, early childhood education, public administration, human services, or a related field. Master's degree in business, nonprofit management, education, public administration, or related field preferred. Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive leadership experience, including oversight of staff, operations, and budgets. Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience leading managers or multi-level teams. Experience managing organizational operations, financial performance, and cross-functional teams. Experience building partnerships with external stakeholders. Experience in a nonprofit organization. Experience in early childhood education, childcare, human services, or another mission-driven, community-based setting. Experience leading a multi-site organization or department. Familiarity with New York State childcare licensing and accreditation Familiarity with quality improvement systems.
Salary:
