Description Key Responsibilities and duties:
Under general supervision and reporting to the Manager of Signage Maintenance, provides administrative and technical support to the Wayfinding & Signage Program, which plans, designs, and manages fabrication and installation of customer signage at all new transit facilities and stations throughout Sound Transit's three-county transit system. The Signage Maintenance Program focuses on maintaining permanent customer signage within all Sound Transit modes, as well as designing, fabricating and deploying temporary signage to support planned and unplanned service disruptions. This contractor will collaboratively perform a variety of functions to support wayfinding and signage maintenance by overseeing the updates (including service change), inspections, repair, maintenance, and retrofit of signage system-wide through: management of projects, operational processes, and the agency's signage maintenance plan; provides expertise in the repair and troubleshooting of customer focused signs installed on Sound Transit properties; writing and/or drafting correspondence, criteria, and contract supporting documents; researching materials and products; producing reports; surveying on-site conditions and contractors' work completed in the field, including site inspections and punch listing; producing and tracking graphic materials/signage documentation.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
This assignment requires minimum 1 year experience in facilities maintenance, strong experience with the signage industry, signage documentation and production methods; as well as operational process management, project management, and contract administration. Knowledge of custom signage, as well as code-required signage necessary. Knowledge of data entry, along with foundational contract administration skills such as reviewing scopes of work, change orders, invoices, and procurement documents. The candidate should be proficient in Excel, Microsoft Office Suite, and SharePoint, with the ability to prepare spreadsheets, reports, correspondence, technical documents; and read construction documents. Ability to understand and interpret architectural drawings and plans is necessary. They bring at minimum minor project management and contract/vendor administration experience, including supporting the signage team as assigned through procurement stages, reviewing signage documentation, and inspecting completed work. Strong communication skills—both written and verbal—are essential, as are organizational abilities, accurate record keeping, and multitasking. The assignment also requires sound judgment, independent problem solving, and the ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures and learn the agency's signage standards and how to apply them. Additional capabilities include producing presentations, PowerPoints and/or reports, conducting research, preparing recommendations, maintaining filing systems, delivering excellent customer service, and working effectively with staff, management, vendors, and partner agencies. This assignment benefits from a self-starter who can work independently while collaborating well across departments and learn the agency's signage standards. Working knowledge of graphic design, Adobe Creative Suite, FileMaker Pro, and/or SmartSheets a plus. Work will be hybrid performed in a standard office environment as well as on construction sites and active transit facilities. Must operate specialized equipment and vehicles such as hand tools, power tools, and passenger vehicles; participate in safety and security training; prepares for and responds to planned and unplanned service disruptions, urgent situations such as signage failure and customer concerns; complies with after hours and on-call work as needed to support contracts and assure effective and reliable response to planned and unforeseen signage related incidents and repairs. Work will be hybrid, with a 3 day on-site minimum requirement, performed in a standard office environment as well as on construction sites and active transit facilities.
