Description Assistant Camp Director (Programming) Job Description The Justice Education Center's mission is to improve the lives of children, youth, and adults through increasing community safety, reducing crime and violence, and providing educational and wellness opportunities for Connecticut's children, youth, and families. In keeping with The Center's mission, Camp Inspire's goal is to provide children with the opportunity to engage in fun and educational activities surrounded by the wonders of nature year-round, while building self-esteem, forming new friendships, developing empathy for others, developing positive relationships with staff members, and learning mediative leadership skills.

21 years of age and above, previous camp experience needed Position Purpose To stand in for the camp director in his/her absence. To assist the camp director in her/ his job to further the mission of The Justice Education Center and Camp Inspire through the development and management of program, human resource, financial, marketing, and strategic operations, of a summer camp program. Essential Job Functions ­ Helps to design, deliver, and evaluate camp programs that meet the needs and interests of the camp's population, and ensure their delivery in a healthy, safe, and fun manner ­ Remain current with information on the developmental needs of youth ­ Annually seek and analyze input from youth, families, and staff regarding the quality, safety, and enjoyment of the program and staff ­ With the
Camp Director:
develop and implement crisis and risk management procedures ­ Design, and guide the staff in the delivery of programs and activities appropriate to the camper population 2. Support the financial aspects of summer camp with the Camp Director ­ Help to monitor budget for the camp's operations ­ Design and suggest long-term fundraising strategies for the camp program and facilities ­ Help to find Grants that may be applicable to our program 3. Implement human resource management practices to recruit and retain seasonal staff ­ Help to recruit staff based on camper enrollment and program management requirements ­ Assist in the training, supervision, and evaluation of seasonal staff ­ Offer adjustments to staff job descriptions as deemed necessary 4. As needed, inspect and report property maintenance needs to ensure stewardship of current resources and recommend development for future needs. ­ Conduct assessment of property and maintenance needs throughout the summer. ­ Ensure camper and staff safety by requesting needed repairs in a timely manner. 5. Help to oversee the daily operation of the summer camp program, camper and staff supervision, and health care ­ Stay in communication with the health care staff and ensure their implementation of the health care plan. Other Job Duties Other duties as may be deemed necessary by the Camp Director to ensure the Health and Safety of the Campers and Staff. Relationships Keep in mind that at all times the Administrative Staff are the face of Camp Inspire in the local community and behave in such a way that the community has a positive impression of our program Proficiencies Must be able to use Microsoft Word, to be able to develop a spreadsheet using Microsoft Excel, and be willing to learn to use the software chosen by the Justice Education Center in the administration of Camp Qualifications (Minimum Education and Experience) Must meet the requirements set forth by the State of Connecticut and the American Camp Association for a

Should be at least 25 years of age. Hold a Bachelor's Degree. Have at least 8 weeks of experience in a supervisory position in camp or equivalent experience. Physical Requirements The Assistant Camp Director should have good listening skills. S/he should be able to observe the actions of others in order to evaluate their performance. Responsibilities of All Camp Staff Follow all policies as outlined in the Staff Manual ­ Maintain a positive working relationships with campers, parents, and other staff ­ Encourages physical, emotional growth and positive character development in all campers ­ Practices cultural humility, striving to actively learn about and be sensitive to all cultures ­ Maintains the cleanliness of your living space (and communal living space) to which you are assigned ­ Care for and maintain any program equipment, supplies, and spaces used (including program areas, staff lounge, costume closet, keys, etc.) Any observed risks or facilities in disrepair must be immediately reported to the Maintenance or Management Team ­ Assist with other job duties outside the normal scope of your job description or contract to ensure that programs run smoothly and safely, or as deemed necessary by the Camp Director ­ Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning and leading those as assigned. ­ Oversee the daily operation of the summer camp program, camper and staff supervision, and health care ­ Stay in communication with the health care staff and ensure their implementation of the health care plan Other Job Duties Other duties as may be deemed necessary by the Camp Director to ensure the Health and Safety of the Campers and Staff.
