JOB SUMMARY
(Brief Statement of Purpose) Under general direction and supervision of the DTA Coordinator will ensure that all transportation provided is done in safe and efficient manner by well-trained and conscientious staff.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This classification is responsible for ensuring and providing safe transportation. Allowing the Individual being supported safe means to and from the program on a daily basis, including the upkeep of vans for safety purposes.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
(illustrative only- Work assignments may vary and will be communicated to the employee by the supervisor.)
  • Plans, schedules and arranges transportation of Chandler/Gilbert Arc passengers to and from program areas.
  • Communicates with staff and/ or Coordinator in all program areas, as needed.
  • Directs, but does not supervise agency drivers, in conjunction with the department heads.
  • Provides direction and assistance to drivers: driving, routes, schedules, paperwork.
  • Ensures safe driving practices and accurate recording of attendance/mileage and gas records.
  • Provides hands-on guidance to drivers in driving techniques as well as use of wheelchair securement devices.
  • Calls parents/family/guardians members if transportation schedule is interrupted or off schedule.
  • Provides periodic vehicle maintenance checks, and communicates maintenance needs or safety issues to the maintenance department.
  • Ensures emergency information and directions remain updated in each vehicle.
  • Will ensure vans are kept clean and the interior is clutter free.
  • Maintains and serves client caseload for at least 5 hours per day as a Direct Support Professional (DSP)
  • Reviews Chandler/Gilbert Arc vehicles daily while ensuring gas tanks are filled every two days
  • Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • Must have proven emotional and behavioral ability to relate to people with Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities.
  • Must have the proven ability to ability to exercise diplomacy and tact in dealing with transportation changes and other concerns from family members, people we serve, and drivers,
  • Ability to use computer for accessing route information on the internet, communicating via e-mail, and maintaining/updating statistical vehicle information.
  • Must have demonstrated leadership skills
  • Familiarity with vehicle safety and maintenance requirements
  • Must have flexibility in schedule of availability to assure that vehicle emergencies or transportation schedule changes are followed through to completion.
  • Ability to accurately document observations, descriptions, and training data as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Must have high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance and criminal background check.
  • Must be able to successfully complete all required Training.
  • Must be willing and able to drive Agency vehicles (Must have a valid Arizona Driver's License and must be an acceptable driver, per the Agency insurance requirements).
  • Some transportation dispatch experience preferred.
  • Previous experience working with people with Developmental Disabilities preferred.
MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must have emotional and behavioral ability to work with effectively with people with Developmental Disabilities
  • Commitment to the principles of Self-Determination and the philosophy of the organization.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must have the physical ability to lift up to 35 pounds as well as manipulate wheelchairs and wheelchair tie-downs. This includes but is not limited to, stooping, bending and other lifting.
  • Ability to participate in physical demonstration of behavior support techniques in a training session and/or on the job, that include but are not limited to, bending, stooping, lifting, restraining, and/or physically escorting others.
