The City of Millville is seeking dependable, motivated individuals to join our Department of Public Safety as Public Safety Telecommunicator Trainees. Public Safety Telecommunicators are a critical connection between the public and emergency responders. They receive emergency and non-emergency calls, gather important information, dispatch police, fire, EMS, and other resources, and help ensure responding personnel receive accurate and timely information.

We are currently hiring for TWO full-time positions, 40 hours per week:

Evening Shift:

3:00 PM

•11:00

PM Overnight Shift:

11:00 PM

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Salary Range:

$38,118.33

•$62,843.73 This is a full-time, non-exempt New Jersey Civil Service position represented by Council 18. Salary placement and progression are dictated by the applicable Council 18 salary guide and Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverage offered beginning on the 61st day of employment. Access to the New Jersey Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) once eligible. Vacation leave, sick leave, and administrative leave in accordance with the Council 18 CBA. Tuition reimbursement opportunities in accordance with the provisions and eligibility requirements of the Council 18 CBA. This position offers more than a paycheck

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN & DO

Receive, evaluate, and prioritize emergency and non-emergency calls for service. Obtain critical information from callers and accurately document details. Dispatch and communicate with police, fire, EMS, and other emergency personnel. Operate Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), radio, telephone, ANI/ALI, and other public safety communication systems. Communicate calmly and professionally with individuals experiencing emergencies, distress, or emotionally difficult situations. Manage multiple communications and information sources simultaneously. Maintain accurate records and protect confidential and sensitive information. Follow established public safety policies, procedures, regulations, and protocols.

TRAINING & CAREER ADVANCEMENT

This is a New Jersey Civil Service trainee title and provides an opportunity to build a career in public safety communications. Employees must successfully complete required City, departmental, state, and other applicable training and certifications during the trainee period, including OETS certification when applicable. After successfully completing the required 12-month training period, employees may be eligible for advancement, in accordance with New Jersey Civil Service Commission procedures, to the title of Public Safety Telecommunicator.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Meet all requirements established by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission for the title of Public Safety Telecommunicator Trainee. Be at least 18 years of age upon hire. Be able to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position. Be able to maintain regular and reliable attendance and report for assigned shifts. Public safety communications operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Employees must be available to work weekends, holidays, and other nontraditional hours based upon their assigned schedule and operational needs.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW

Public safety communications can be demanding. Telecommunicators may receive calls involving accidents, medical emergencies, fires, crimes, threats, injuries, violence, and other stressful or emotionally difficult circumstances. Successful candidates must be able to maintain their composure, concentrate for extended periods, manage multiple sources of information, and communicate professionally even during challenging situations.
