Dispatcher - Bus & Passenger TransportationOverview Join our dynamic transportation team as a Dispatcher , where you'll play a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient movement of buses and passengers. In this fast-paced role, you will coordinate daily bus operations, communicate with drivers, monitor routes and schedules, and respond quickly to service changes or unexpected situations. You will serve as an important link between drivers, passengers, maintenance teams, supervisors, and other internal departments. Your strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills will help ensure buses operate safely, efficiently, and on schedule while providing excellent passenger service. Duties Coordinate and dispatch buses according to daily schedules, routes, passenger needs, and operational requirements. Monitor bus locations using GPS, vehicle tracking systems, and dispatch software to ensure service is running safely and on schedule. Maintain constant communication with drivers using multi-line phone systems, two-way radios, and other internal communication tools. Provide drivers with route information, schedule updates, passenger-related information, and instructions as needed. Monitor service throughout the day and respond promptly to delays, breakdowns, accidents, traffic conditions, weather, and other unexpected situations. Coordinate with maintenance personnel regarding vehicle breakdowns, mechanical concerns, inspections, and bus availability. Communicate with supervisors and other departments regarding service interruptions, staffing needs, passenger concerns, and operational issues. Assist with coordinating bus assignments, driver assignments, route changes, and schedule adjustments. Maintain accurate dispatch records, including driver activity, vehicle assignments, service interruptions, incidents, and other operational information. Monitor driver hours and schedules to help ensure compliance with applicable DOT regulations, company policies, and safety requirements. Coordinate transportation services to ensure passengers are picked up and dropped off safely and according to established schedules. Respond professionally to passenger service issues and assist with resolving concerns related to routes, schedules, delays, or service disruptions. Complete data entry, reports, logs, and other required transportation documentation. Work closely with drivers, supervisors, maintenance staff, and other departments to maintain safe and efficient daily bus operations. Assist during emergencies by following established company procedures and communicating accurate information to drivers, supervisors, emergency personnel, and other appropriate parties. Maintain organized records of dispatch activities, vehicle assignments, driver schedules, maintenance issues, and safety-related incidents. Experience Previous experience in bus dispatching, passenger transportation, transit operations, fleet operations, or a related transportation environment preferred. Experience working with bus or vehicle dispatch software, GPS tracking systems, scheduling systems, or transportation management platforms. Knowledge of passenger transportation operations, bus routes, scheduling, and driver coordination. Strong understanding of the importance of passenger safety and reliable transportation service. Ability to monitor multiple buses, drivers, routes, and communication channels simultaneously. Excellent organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to prioritize quickly in a fast-paced environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills with professional phone and radio etiquette. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during delays, emergencies, vehicle breakdowns, accidents, severe weather, and other unexpected situations. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel, for documentation, reporting, and data entry. Understanding of DOT regulations, company safety policies, driver hours-of-service requirements, and passenger transportation procedures preferred. Ability to work effectively with drivers, passengers, supervisors, maintenance personnel, and other members of the transportation team. Strong customer-service skills and the ability to handle passenger concerns professionally and respectfully.
