Full Job Description Job Summary:

The SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity (MOSAC) is seeking a Manager of Facilities and Operations to help ensure that the museum runs efficiently every day while supporting an exceptional experience for visitors, staff, and partners. The Manager of Facilities and Operations plays a key role in maintaining and advancing MOSAC's physical environment and operational systems. This position oversees the day-to-day facilities operations of the museum, including the building, grounds, parking, and core operational infrastructure. This role ensures that all public and back-of-house spaces are safe, clean, functional, and aligned with the museum's standards. This position manages preventative maintenance, repairs, vendor relationships, and operational logistics across the site. The Manager also oversees security, custodial services, and the museum shop from an operational perspective, while supporting cross-departmental needs such as exhibits, programs, and events. In addition, this role plays an important part in capital and infrastructure projects, including coordination of a new auxiliary building. The Manager works closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure that projects and daily operations are executed effectively, safely, and in alignment with MOSAC's priorities.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Oversee daily facilities operations, ensuring all public and back-of-house spaces are clean, safe, and functional Manage preventative maintenance programs and coordinate repairs across building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general infrastructure Serve as the primary point of contact for facilities-related vendors, contractors, and service providers Oversee internal and/or contracted custodial and security services Maintain clear documentation of systems, procedures, and operational protocols Manage MOSAC's parking operations, including traffic flow, accessibility, and coordination of offsite parking when needed Oversee the museum's vehicle fleet, including maintenance, usage coordination, and safety compliance Support and implement safety protocols, training, and compliance across the organization Support and coordinate site-related projects across the MOSAC property Oversee the museum shop from an operational perspective, ensuring the space is safe, functional, and well maintained Support exhibit installations and upgrades in collaboration with the Exhibits team Assist with operational logistics for programs, events, and rentals in coordination with internal teams Serve as a key coordinator for capital and infrastructure projects, including the development of a new auxiliary building Track facilities-related expenses and support budget planning and cost management Collaborate with Guest Services, Programs, Events, Exhibits, and Leadership to align operations with visitor experience goals Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in facilities management, operations, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience Minimum 3-5 years of experience in facilities or operations management, preferably in a public-facing environment Experience managing vendors, maintenance programs, and facility operations Experience supporting construction or capital projects is strongly preferred Working knowledge of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and security systems Familiarity with safety standards and regulations in public environments
Physical Requirements:
Ability to walk the museum and grounds regularly Ability to lift up to approximately 30 pounds Ability to respond to urgent facility issues as needed Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays Comfortable working in a dynamic, public-facing environment This position is at-will, exempt .
