Job Description

Banning Lewis Preparatory Academy is a tuition-free public charter school authorized by District 49, proudly serving students in grades 6-12 in the Banning Lewis Ranch community and surrounding neighborhoods in northeastern Colorado Springs. Our mission is to create a safe, supportive environment where students thrive academically and develop the skills, character, and mindset to engage with the world.
Position Overview:
The 6-12 Facilities Manager is responsible for ensuring the secondary campus building and grounds are safe, clean, and well-maintained. This role oversees custodial staff and manages all facilities-related needs, including inspections, repairs, installations, and ongoing building upkeep. The Facilities Manager plays a critical role in maintaining a high-quality learning environment by ensuring all systems and spaces are functioning effectively and that issues are addressed proactively and efficiently. This position works in close partnership with school leadership, athletics, activities, and operational teams to support the daily needs of the secondary campus.
Core Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Facilities Operations & Building Maintenance Oversee the daily maintenance and upkeep of the secondary campus building and grounds Perform and coordinate repairs, installations, and general maintenance tasks Ensure all building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.) are functioning properly Conduct regular inspections of facilities to identify and address maintenance needs Maintain a clean, safe, and organized physical environment Support campus readiness for daily operations and student activities Custodial Staff Leadership Supervise and support custodial staff, including scheduling, task assignments, and performance expectations Ensure consistent cleaning standards across classrooms, restrooms, common areas, locker rooms, and activity spaces Provide training and guidance to custodial staff on procedures and expectations Monitor work quality and ensure timely completion of tasks Preventative Maintenance & Compliance Develop and implement a preventative maintenance plan to reduce long-term facility issues Ensure compliance with safety regulations, inspections, and building codes Maintain records related to inspections, maintenance, and compliance requirements Coordinate required inspections (fire, safety, environmental, etc.) and ensure follow-through Repairs, Installations & Vendor Coordination Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for specialized repairs or services Oversee installation of equipment, fixtures, and facility upgrades Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to standard Manage supply orders and inventory related to facilities and maintenance Assist with monitoring vendor performance and service completion Safety & Emergency Response Support school safety systems by ensuring building readiness and functionality Respond to urgent maintenance or safety concerns promptly Assist in emergency preparedness and response planning Ensure safe storage and use of equipment, tools, and materials Event & Operational Support Assist with setup and breakdown for school events, athletics, meetings, and activities Support operational needs that require facilities coordination Ensure spaces are prepared and maintained for daily use and special events Coordinate after-hours operational support as needed Other Work Factors The physical demands, work environment factors, and mental functions described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, climb or balance, push, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds frequently. Requires sufficient physical strength, endurance, and mobility to support daily facilities operations.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work primarily in a school environment.
Mental Functions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, compare, analyze, coordinate, instruct, evaluate, and use interpersonal skills. Occasionally required to compile, copy, compute, and negotiate.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required Experience in facilities management, maintenance, or a related field preferred Experience supervising staff preferred Knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing) preferred Ability to use tools, equipment, and maintenance systems safely Must successfully complete a background check
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a secondary school or educational environment Experience coordinating vendors and contractors Experience with preventative maintenance systems and compliance tracking Ability to support athletic and extracurricular operational needs in collaboration with the Athletic Director Why Join Us? Pay:
$65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
