Job Description

Facilities Manager -
Pensacola, Florida Job Description Status:
Full-time Reports to:
Operations Manager Compensation:
Commensurate with experience
Schedule:
Regular weekday hours. Sunday duties are not expected except in an emergency. Occasional after-hours or on-call response is required for building emergencies (for example, a broken pipe, glass damage, HVAC failure, or similar urgent facility issues). About First City Church First City Church exists to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and to partner with people to know God, find freedom, discover purpose, and make a difference. Our campus is a large, nearly 100-year-old two- and three-story building in Pensacola's East Hill neighborhood. The property includes a large auditorium, two smaller auditoriums used by youth and teens, kitchens, numerous offices used by church staff and another ministry that shares the building, a playground, a large parking lot, a smaller lot, and a grassy lot. This role exists so the building and grounds stay safe, functional, and well-kept—supporting worship, ministry, and the people who use the campus every week. Position Summary The Facilities Manager is responsible for the day-to-day care, preventative maintenance, and practical upkeep of First City Church's buildings and grounds. The work is hands-on. The church is looking for someone who can diagnose and complete many electrical, plumbing, and HVAC repairs without immediately calling a vendor, keep a reliable maintenance schedule, and work with little daily supervision. This is not a security role and does not carry budget ownership. Custodial is a separate function, whether staffed internally or contracted. That person or vendor reports to the Facilities Manager. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Preventative maintenance and general upkeep Own a written, recurring schedule of preventative work and complete it consistently (filters, inspections, minor repairs, seasonal items, and similar routine tasks). Maintain the historic multi-story building, interior spaces, mechanical systems, and exterior areas in good working order. Identify problems early and resolve them before they become emergencies whenever possible. Trade work Perform electrical, plumbing, and HVAC work at a practical, working-knowledge level. Formal certification is not required; the ability to fix and update systems without constant vendor use is required. Complete painting and other light construction or finish work as needed. Know when a job exceeds in-house capability and bring in outside help. Vendors and contracted work Serve as the church's primary point of contact for facilities, vendors, and contractors. Schedule, escort, and follow up on vendor work so jobs are done correctly and on time. Grounds Oversee and perform landscaping and lawn care for the parking areas, grassy lot, playground, and other exterior spaces. Upkeep on all playgrounds, playground equipment, and structures. Events and campus readiness Set up and tear down for ministry events and building use as needed. Keep ministry spaces usable and presentable for staff, partner ministry occupants, and regular campus activity. Custodial oversight Provide light custodial support as needed. Supervise the campus care/custodial employee or contracted custodial service so cleaning standards are met. Order supplies as needed. Communication and work habits Work in a self-directed way. Do not wait to be asked to complete obvious or recurring facility work. Track work, keep a to-do list, and finish what is started. Communicate clearly with the Operations Manager about building conditions, urgent issues, and completed work. Respond to after-hours facility emergencies when they occur. Finish work on time, every time, and leave no job half-completed. Ability to own mistakes, being quick to own it, fix it, and learn from it. Qualifications Faith and character A committed Christian and a member in good standing of a Bible-believing Christian church. Membership at First City Church is not required. Willing to authorize a pastoral reference check with the pastor of the church where the candidate is a member. Integrity, reliability, a servant posture, and respect for the church's mission and the people who use the building. Experience and skills Demonstrated hands-on facilities, maintenance, or building-systems experience, preferably in a multi-use or older building. Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems sufficient to diagnose issues and complete many repairs independently. Ability to manage vendors when outside work is required. Strong problem-solving skills and follow-through. Ability to plan work, keep a preventative-maintenance schedule, and complete tasks without constant direction.
Comfortable with physical work:
lifting, climbing ladders, working in mechanical spaces, and being on your feet for much of the day. Familiarity with MSDS and upkeep. OSHA Standards understood and demonstrated. Preferred Experience in a church, school, nonprofit, or similar multi-use campus. Experience maintaining an older or historic building. Basic computer skills sufficient for work orders, email, and simple recordkeeping. OSHA certified Conditions of Employment Employment is contingent on a satisfactory background check and drug screening. First City Church's campus is smoke- and tobacco-free, including cigarettes, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco, and vaping. This applies to all buildings, grounds, parking areas, and vehicles on church property. Physical Requirements This is a physically active role. The Facilities Manager must be able to lift and carry materials and equipment, climb stairs and ladders, work at heights when needed, stoop, kneel, and work in mechanical rooms, attics, and outdoor heat or weather as the job requires. What Success Looks Like Demonstrated expertise in prioritization. Preventative work happens on schedule without reminders. Most electrical, plumbing, and HVAC issues are handled in-house. Vendors are used when needed and managed well. The building, lots, playground, and grounds look cared for and stay functional. Staff and ministry partners can do their work without facility problems becoming a distraction. Emergencies are handled promptly and calmly. Being flexible with tasks when priorities arise. A team-player, non-grumbling, non-complaining attitude willing to "jump in" as needed as needs arise. Safe. Compliance with OSHA and MSDS labeling and safety protocols. How to Apply Interested candidates should submit a résumé and a brief note describing their facilities experience and current church membership to First City Church. A pastoral reference will be requested as part of the process AFTER an initial interview. Finalists must complete a background check and drug screening. Email resume and cover letter to CAREERS@FirstCityChurch.org
