AQUATICS COORDINATOR
Scope and Responsibility:
The Aquatics Coordinator works under the direction of the Programs Coordinator and is responsible for coordinating and supervising all aspects of the Association's aquatic programs and operations/maintenance of the pool. Establishes goals and plans, develops, implements, and evaluates aquatics recreational opportunities and facilities. Responsible for the financial, material and personnel resources needed to accomplish a service function. Additional duties include budget preparation and monitoring, hiring and supervision of assigned staff.
Duties:
- Maintain current lifeguarding, CPR/AED, First Aid, and other required aquatic certifications and successfully complete all required conditioning and rescue drills as established by the Association and governing agencies.
- Ensure the safety, supervision, and overall operation of the aquatic facility during all operating hours.
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety, risk management, and emergency action procedures in compliance with local, state, and national regulations.
- Oversee daily facility inspections, chemical testing, drop testing, safety equipment inspections, and operational checklists.
- Coordinate and monitor pool maintenance operations, including seasonal dome installation and removal, and communicate facility needs to appropriate vendors and contractors.
- Ensure all opening and closing procedures are completed accurately by Head Lifeguards and Lifeguards.
- Serve as the designated on-call aquatic supervisor during facility operating hours and respond to emergencies, staffing concerns, facility issues, and operational needs as they arise. Staff Leadership & Development
- Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate aquatic staff.
- Supervise Head Lifeguards, Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, and other aquatic personnel as assigned.
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification and Recertification courses.
- Develop and conduct monthly in-service training programs to maintain staff skills, safety awareness, and regulatory compliance.
- Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to aquatic staff.
- Assist with disciplinary actions and staff development initiatives as needed. Scheduling, Payroll & Administrative Functions
- Prepare and manage bi-weekly staff schedules to ensure adequate facility coverage and operational efficiency.
- Review, verify, and submit employee timesheets and payroll information accurately and on time.
- Maintain participation records, attendance reports, daily sign-in sheets, membership/pass expiration records, and program statistics.
- Compile and report daily, weekly, monthly, and annual usage data and program performance metrics.
- Ensure timely submission of instructor payments, contracts, and related documentation. Program Development & Community Engagement
- Assist in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of aquatic programs, classes, events, and special activities.
- Organize, coordinate, and supervise comprehensive year-round aquatic programming for all ages and ability levels.
- Maintain and manage the aquatic facility calendar, including programs, rentals, events, maintenance schedules, and special activities.
- Assist in marketing and promoting aquatic programs through various communication channels.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with participants, families, community organizations, schools, and special-interest groups.
- Collaborate with community partners to expand aquatic programming opportunities and facility utilization. Budgeting, Contracts & Facility Management
- Assist in developing and monitoring aquatic program budgets and expenditures.
- Coordinate and oversee vendor services and contracts related to aquatic facility operations.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure adequate supplies, chemicals, equipment, and program materials are available.
- Recommend facility improvements, equipment purchases, and operational enhancements. Leadership & Organizational Responsibilities
- Serve as a staff representative on committees and participate in organizational meetings as assigned.
- Keep supervisors informed of significant operational issues, incidents, facility concerns, and program developments.
- Participate in strategic planning, goal setting, and long-term departmental development initiatives.
- Maintain effective communication with management team members to promote collaboration and efficient operations across all departments.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and professional environment for staff, participants, and community members.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by the Director of Programs and Operations and Executive Director. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Comply with all policies and procedures outlined in the Hilton Head Island Recreation Association Personnel Manual.
- Moderate physical activity required, including lifting and carrying objects up to 50 pounds, standing, walking, bending, and working extended periods outdoors.
- Work environment may include exposure to water, pool chemicals, extreme temperatures, humidity, loud noises, and other environmental conditions associated with aquatic facilities.
- Follow all safety procedures and use appropriate protective equipment when required.
Certifications / Requirements
The following certifications and qualifications are preferred for this position. Candidates who do not currently hold all the listed certifications are still encouraged to apply. Qualified candidates will have the opportunity to obtain required certifications and complete necessary training after hire. The Association will cover the costs of obtaining the required certifications and training.

- Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Management or equivalent
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite

$45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
