General Statement of Job
Under regular supervision, performs and coordinates a variety of custodial, maintenance, preventative maintenance, and facility support functions to ensure a safe, clean, efficient, and welcoming environment at Gateway to Innovation (G2i). Supports the operation of specialized instructional labs, classrooms, child care spaces, community-use areas, and other campus facilities. Works closely with school administration, District maintenance personnel, custodial staff, contractors, and vendors to address facility needs and maintain the campus to a high standard.
Cleans and maintains assigned vehicle(s), tools, and test equipment. Performs all duties in compliance with District and department policies, procedures, and standards of quality and safety. Must be able to use email, computerized maintenance systems, spreadsheets, and other District technology platforms.
Reports to the Director of Gateway to Innovation or designee
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Supervises and trains the school's custodians. Schedules, coordinates, directs and performs routine and comprehensive facility/custodial maintenance of assigned facilities. Vacuums, shampoos, and spot cleans carpets and furniture; washes windows.
Removes trash in accordance with established procedures.
Cleans and disinfects restrooms, employee childcare spaces, specialized instructional labs, and other campus facilities; orders and stocks facilities with paper and supplies.
Reports and responds to emergency calls for custodial assistance.
Responds to service requests and coordinates setup and takedown of furniture and equipment for campus and community events.
Coordinates the setup and reconfiguration of flexible learning spaces, including moving and arranging furniture, tables, and equipment to support instruction, student activities, workforce programs, and community events.
Performs various maintenance and custodial duties such as installation and repair to fixtures in restrooms, labs, and classrooms.
Troubleshoots and repairs minor plumbing and electrical problems; replaces a variety of light bulbs and lighting accessories.
Assists with, and performs refinishing of hardwood floors.
Identifies stains and uses proper chemicals for removal.
Maintains inventory and submits written requests for supplies; tests and evaluates new supplies and equipment.
Operates power equipment such as man lifts, carpet extractors, pressure washer, hand and power tools, and campus vehicles.
Performs preventative maintenance in and around facilities.
Utilize computerized maintenance logs and email to document completion of jobs and daily activity.
Monitors the condition and operation of building systems, including HVAC, lighting controls, access control, security, plumbing, and electrical systems; reports concerns and coordinates service needs with District maintenance personnel and appropriate vendors.
Provides facility support for specialized instructional spaces, including CTE labs, makerspaces, health care instructional areas, fabrication spaces, technology-rich classrooms, and child care areas, while following all applicable safety requirements.
Coordinates with District maintenance staff, contractors, vendors, and school administration regarding repairs, inspections, scheduled service, warranties, and other facility needs.
Assists with facility preparation and support for community events, advisory board meetings, workforce programs, showcases, tours, evening activities, and other campus functions.
Maintains a high standard of campus appearance and readiness so that instructional, community, and visitor spaces remain clean, organized, safe, and presentation-ready.
Supports preventative maintenance practices designed to protect the condition, appearance, and long-term operation of the G2i facility and its equipment.
Additional Duties:
Performs custodial and maintenance duties in and around campus facilities; troubleshoots, performs minor repairs, and responds to emergency calls for service; implements setup and takedown for a wide variety of campus and community events; works closely with employees, District departments, contractors, vendors, and the public to meet the custodial and maintenance needs of Gateway to Innovation; and resolves problems to ensure efficient and safe operations. Assists in maintaining specialized instructional and community-use spaces in a clean, safe, and operational condition. Performs all other Maintenance/Custodial related duties as required by the supervisor.
Special Requirements:

Additional Requirements:
Must have the ability to work with limited supervision. Methods of maintaining, cleaning and preserving a variety of surfaces; proper use of a wide range of chemicals according to state and federal regulations; handling and disposing of hazardous materials and blood-borne pathogens with care.
Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing ladders or walking.
Must be able to work safely in an environment containing caustic chemicals, cleaning materials, dust, and noise. Routinely required to work under inclement weather conditions. Prompt and regular attendance is essential. Must be available after hours for emergency repairs as required.
Must have a valid S.C. driver's license. All candidates must be able to pass an extensive background investigation before being hired.
