Job Title:
Forklift Operator Job Description The Forklift Operator safely loads, unloads, and moves freight within a clean, modern facility while ensuring accurate documentation and efficient flow of materials across the dock. Responsibilities Load inbound and outbound freight to and from vehicles and containers using a forklift and other material handling equipment. Unload inbound and outbound containers and sort freight according to size, destination, and routing requirements. Read, decode, and decipher freight coding to expedite freight movement and support accurate tracing of shipments. Reconcile driver pick-up and delivery manifests to ensure all freight is properly accounted for. Label, weigh, and dimensionalize freight to support accurate shipping, billing, and inventory records. Record damaged shipments and misrouted freight on the appropriate reports to maintain quality and compliance standards. Perform regular cleanup activities in the work area to maintain safety, organization, and cleanliness of the dock. Operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner, following all facility safety procedures and guidelines. Complete all tasks in accordance with company policies and standard operating procedures. Perform all essential functions of the role with or without reasonable accommodation. Essential Skills Proven ability to operate a forklift safely and efficiently in a warehouse or dock environment. Experience with material handling, including loading, unloading, and moving freight. Ability to read, decode, and interpret freight codes and labels to support routing and tracing. Experience reconciling pick-up and delivery manifests or similar shipping documentation. Capability to label, weigh, and dimensionalize freight accurately. Attention to detail when identifying and recording damaged or misrouted shipments. Ability to maintain a clean and safe work area through regular housekeeping activities. Basic inventory handling skills and ability to track freight movement. Physical ability to perform dock work, including standing, walking, and handling freight, with or without reasonable accommodation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience as a Forklift Operator. Experience as an Equipment Operator in a warehouse, distribution, or manufacturing setting. Experience with material counting and basic inventory control. Familiarity with modern warehouse or dock operations and procedures. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a clean, modern dock and warehouse environment that focuses on safety and efficient freight handling. Multiple shift options are available, including Sun-Wed and Wed-Sat schedules with 1st shift (5:00am-5:30pm) and 3rd shift (5:00pm-5:30am). The work involves operating forklifts and other material handling equipment on the dock, handling freight of various sizes, and performing regular housekeeping to maintain a safe, organized workspace. Attire is appropriate for an active warehouse setting, supporting safe and comfortable movement throughout the shift. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Independence, KY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
