Full Job Description Yard Heavy Equipment Forklift Operator Job Summary:

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating large industrial equipment—including forklifts ranging from 6K to 36K or larger-capacity lifts—to move, load, unload, and stage materials throughout the warehouse or yard. This position plays a critical role in ensuring efficient product flow, equipment safety, and overall operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate various heavy equipment such as forklifts, roll clamps, and large-capacity lifts to transport and store materials. Load and unload materials onto trucks, trailers, or designated storage areas in a safe and timely manner. Perform pre-use inspections on all equipment at the start of each shift to ensure proper operation and compliance with safety standards. Maintain accurate records of materials handled, inventory movement, and daily equipment checks. Use rigging, block, and bracing techniques when required to secure materials for transport. Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations, maintaining a clean and organized work area. Communicate effectively with supervisors, drivers, and team members to coordinate workflow and resolve operational issues. Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to equipment as needed, reporting any malfunctions promptly. Support other warehouse duties as assigned, including general housekeeping, material preparation, and cross-training as needed. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Previous experience operating a jockey truck, forklift, or in general labor is highly desirable. Minimum 2 years of experience operating forklifts or heavy equipment in a warehouse, yard, or industrial setting. Valid Forklift Operator Certification (36K). Familiarity with rigging, block, and bracing techniques. Strong attention to detail and safety awareness. Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs regularly.
