Job Description

The Dockworker / Forklift Operator is responsible for efficiently and safely operating forklift equipment to load, unload, and move freight and materials within a dock or warehouse environment. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the smooth flow of goods through the shipping and receiving process, maintaining a high level of safety, accuracy, and productivity. 12PM Start Time! $20.97 PER

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Forklift Operation:

Safely operate various types of forklift equipment, such as counterbalance forklifts, reach trucks, and pallet jacks, in a fast-paced dock or warehouse setting. Load and unload trucks, trailers, and containers, ensuring proper placement and securement of cargo. Transport goods to designated storage areas or staging locations within the facility. Handle materials and freight using the appropriate equipment and techniques.

Safety and Compliance:

Adhere to all safety guidelines, regulations, and protocols to prevent accidents, injuries, and damage to goods or equipment. Conduct pre-operational checks on forklift equipment, reporting any malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly. Use proper lifting and loading techniques to prevent injuries and damage to merchandise. Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring clear pathways and visibility.

Loading and Unloading:

Receive and verify inbound shipments against shipping documents and purchase orders. Efficiently load outbound shipments, ensuring accurate stacking, weight distribution, and adherence to loading instructions. Assist in palletizing and shrink-wrapping freight to secure and protect goods during transit. Sweep out trailers as needed.

Documentation and Communication:

Complete necessary paperwork, documentation, and data entry accurately and in a timely manner. Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments regarding shipment status, special handling instructions, and any discrepancies.

Equipment Maintenance:

Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as fueling, battery charging, and minor repairs, on forklift equipment. Report any equipment issues or malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.

Inventory Management:

Assist in cycle counting and physical inventory checks as required. Ensure proper placement and organization of materials within the warehouse to facilitate easy access and retrieval.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

High school diploma or equivalent. Valid forklift operator certification and experience in operating various types of forklift equipment. 6 months' experience is required. Minimum 18 years old. Meet minimum hiring criteria. Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations related to forklift operation. Physical ability to lift and move heavy objects up to 50 pounds, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and convey information clearly. Basic computer skills for data entry and documentation purposes. Prior experience in a shipping and receiving or warehouse environment is preferred.

ENVIRONMENT

Most work is conducted in a comfortable office environment but exposure to site conditions may also occur. Personal protective equipment must be worn in all areas as required. Although the work usually is not considered inherently dangerous, must be careful while performing onsite services.
