Forklift Operator Job Description This role supports a high-volume manufacturing environment by operating a sit-down forklift to move materials, support production lines, and manage shipping and receiving activities. You will primarily drive a forklift throughout your shift while performing a variety of tasks within the shipping and receiving department to ensure products move efficiently and safely through the facility. Responsibilities Operate a sit-down forklift for the majority of the shift to support production and logistics activities. Transport raw materials and components from storage areas to assembly lines to keep production running smoothly. Pick parts from assembly lines and staging areas to prepare finished products for shipment. Load outbound trucks with finished goods accurately and safely according to shipping requirements. Unload inbound trucks and move materials to designated locations within the facility. Handle materials efficiently, including bringing materials to the line and relocating products as needed. Support shipping and receiving operations by organizing, staging, and moving freight in a timely manner. Assist with inventory-related tasks, such as moving inventory to and from storage and maintaining organized stock areas. Follow production control and logistics procedures to ensure accurate and timely movement of goods. Use RF scanners and related equipment, as required, to support order picking, shipping, and receiving processes. Adhere to all safety guidelines and operational procedures while operating forklifts and handling materials. Collaborate with production, logistics, and shipping teams to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Essential Skills Proven experience operating a sit-down forklift in a manufacturing environment. Hands-on experience in shipping and receiving, including loading and unloading trucks. in production control or logistics within a manufacturing setting. Material handling experience, including bringing materials to production lines and moving finished goods. Ability to perform order picking and packaging tasks to support shipping operations. Comfort working in a very fast-paced environment with strict production and shipping timelines. Strong focus on safety and adherence to operational procedures while operating forklifts. Capability to work assigned shifts and perform overtime as needed. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience using RF scanners for picking, inventory, or shipping tasks. Previous work in a clean, automated manufacturing facility. Exposure to production control logistics processes. Flexibility to work on different shifts as business needs evolve. Work Environment The role is based in a Tier 1 manufacturing facility that operates at a very fast pace, where timely shipment of product is critical. The plant is clean, highly automated, and focused on efficient production and logistics. Forklift operators work closely with production lines rather than in a traditional warehouse or distribution setting. First shift typically runs from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, and night shift runs from 8:00 PM to 4:30 AM, with both shifts currently working overtime. You will primarily operate a sit-down forklift and work within the shipping, receiving, and production support areas, following established safety and operational procedures throughout your shift Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Smyrna, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.10 - $20.10/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
