Job Description
Make It Home is seeking a highly organized, strategic, execution-oriented Director of Advancement to lead and implement a comprehensive marketing and fundraising strategy across multiple functions — campaigns, donor stewardship, content, and reporting — in partnership with the CEO and outside consultants. This is a hands-on leadership role: you'll set strategy and personally execute it, from appeals and social media content to donor calls and campaign calendars, with full ownership from concept through completion. Not suited for someone whose experience is limited to posting assigned content. We're looking for strategy, discernment, ownership, and execution — someone comfortable operating as both the architect and the builder. Core Responsibilities1. Strategy & Campaign Leadership Develop and execute an annual/quarterly marketing and fundraising roadmap, balancing immediate execution against long-term campaign and donor cultivation planning. Plan and run integrated fundraising campaigns — year-end giving, major donor appeals, peer-to-peer, Giving Tuesday — including the gala's pre-event promotion, sponsorship campaign, live content capture, and post-event acknowledgment. Manage a moves management pipeline with leadership and the board to track donor cultivation and solicitation activity. Research, identify, cultivate, and secure corporate and community sponsors for the annual gala and other events, managing the sponsorship process from prospecting and outreach through commitment, recognition, and stewardship. Discern true priorities versus perceived urgency; protect planned work from reactive requests. 2. Donor Stewardship Build and run a donor stewardship program spanning first-time givers through major donors, with a recurring acknowledgment calendar — thank-yous, impact updates, milestone recognition. Draft personalized acknowledgment letters, tax receipts, and impact reports; segment communications by giving level, frequency, and engagement history. Track retention and lapsed-donor rates and run re-engagement campaigns to recover them; keep donor records and communication logs current in Salesforce. 3. Marketing & Content Execution Own the content calendar across all platforms, balancing nurture content with strategic asks; personally draft and publish emails, appeals, captions, and campaign messaging — not only delegate. Coordinate overlapping campaigns (gala, fundraising initiatives, retail, Giving Tuesday, year-end) and drive them from planning through execution without step-by-step direction. Uphold brand voice and visual consistency across channels; collaborate with contracted designers for alignment. 4. Live Event Content & Asset Management Build shot lists and direct photo/video capture at events for sponsor deliverables, donor stewardship, and storytelling; activate staff and volunteers to help. Catalog assets with clear naming and folder conventions so they're reusable for sponsor fulfillment, grant reporting, and future campaigns. 5. Metrics & Reporting Set and track KPIs across email, social, sponsorship, and fundraising — conversion, donor acquisition/retention, average gift size, cost per dollar raised. Deliver quarterly performance summaries with insights and recommended adjustments, not just data, and translate results into impact narratives for leadership and the board. 6. Cross-Department Coordination & Systems Serve as the connective tissue between development, retail, and operations; manage inbound requests and coordinate with department heads on approvals, proofreading, and impact stories. Manage the Marketing Coordinator, with direct oversight ramping up over the first four months alongside the CEO. Build templates, checklists, and repeatable standards (appeal emails, acknowledgment letters, event posts) so materials aren't recreated from scratch each cycle. Systems & Tools Monday.com (or comparable), Salesforce NPSP, Canva, Mailchimp (automation/segmentation), Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace. Qualifications Minimum 5 years of professional marketing experience; nonprofit marketing and/or fundraising experience strongly preferred.
