POSITION SUMMARY
United Against Poverty is a rapidly growing, fast-paced nonprofit organization with a unique approach to breaking the cycle of poverty through empowerment. Our purpose is to inspire and empower those living in poverty to lift themselves and their families to economic self-sufficiency. To help us deliver on this mission, we are seeking a talented Development Director to join our team! The Development Director creates and leads all elements of philanthropy and fundraising, along with all promotional aspects and avenues for the organization. This senior management position is directly responsible for achieving all fundraising and financial objectives; and managing the overall performance of the entire Development team.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
  • Overseeing major gifts, special events, grants, corporate sponsorship, direct mail, and board giving to meet and exceed the annual fund goal established by the organization's leadership team.
  • Engaging and soliciting annual gifts from approximately 150 top-tier donors by proactively identifying, researching, qualifying, cultivating relationships, and stewarding these very important donors.
  • Following the moves management system to strategize and record all contacts to ensure positive and purposeful donor relations efforts.
  • Collaborating with the Executive Director and Community Advisory Board regarding prospective fundraising activities.
  • Leading campaigns that secure the resources necessary to expand our facilities and programs.
  • Hosting regular speaking engagements to build awareness about the mission of United Against Poverty with civic clubs and community groups.
  • Providing leadership in developing organizational, programs, fundraising and financial plans with the local Community Advisory Board and staff, while carrying out plans and policies authorized by the corporate office.
  • Preparing statistical and narrative reports; entering and retrieving data in the donor management system; maintaining appropriate records; utilizing databases; and maintaining accurate notes.
  • Establishing effective working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations.
  • Planning, coordinating, and implementing strategies to attract, develop and retain donors and fundraising volunteers to support the organization and meet the Development Department fundraising goals.
  • In conjunction with the regional Marketing staff and internal Development staff, outside vendors and other agencies as needed: initiate, develop, coordinate, implement and distribute annual reports, marketing, advertising, public relations, media strategies and campaigns and facilitation of all internet and social media avenues to promote the organization.
  • Directing weekly staff development and monthly Development Committee meetings and providing marketing, media, and donor activity reports.
  • Developing and administering the Development Department's annual operating budgets.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and laws, maintaining accountability standards to donors and assure compliance with the code of ethics, principles, and standards of professional conduct.
  • Assisting with all other ad-hoc department projects as needed.
ESSENTIALS THAT WILL MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL
  • Exceptional written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lead a team to accomplish Development goals.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Competency with database systems, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Positive attitude even in the face of adversity.
  • Demonstrated ability to secure donor funds and manage large numbers of donor relationships effectively.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required. CFRE preferred.
  • 5-7 years of progressive experience in successful fundraising, community relations, and planning and executing high-profile fundraising events including securing sponsorships, stewardship, and retention of donors.
PHYSICAL WORK REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to sit, stand and move for long periods of time and frequently throughout the day. Will be exposed to members of the general public on a regular basis. Frequent travel may be required.
SALARY:
Starting at $60,000 (commensurate with experience)
