Director of Development & Communications Description:
The Director of Development & Communications is a senior position responsible for leading the fundraising portfolio andmunications strategy for both NCA/The Allen Center. Working in close partnership with the Executive Director, this individual will cultivate individual donor relationships, secure public and private grants, lead capital/instrument-specific initiatives (such as our ongoing Steinway grand piano campaign), and elevate theanization's regional profile. This is a senior, hands-on role perfect for an experienced arts administrator looking for a high-impact, part-time engagement.
Status:
Part-Time, Exempt (Approx. 20 hours/week, with some flexibility; occasional evening/weekend attendance at major donor events required).
Location:
Hybrid (On-site at The Allen Center in West Newton, MA as needed for donor meetings and key events; remote-friendly for administrative tasks). ing: s directly to the Executive Director and collaborates closely with Board leadership.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Fundraising & Individual Giving:
Develop and execute an annual fundraising plan, including major gifts cultivation, individual donor outreach, the annual appeal, and stewardship campaigns.
Capital & Special Campaigns:
Drive strategy and outreach for targeted capital initiatives, including programmatic campaigns, facilities-focused funding, and instrument acquisition (e.g., the Steinway Grand Piano campaign).
Grant Management:
Identify, write, and submit high-quality grant proposals to municipal, state (such as the Mass Cultural Council), corporate, and private family foundations; managepliance and reporting.
Event-Based Fundraising:
Lead the sponsorship acquisition and fundraising architecture for major events, specifically our signature annual Strawberry Festival.
Strategic Communications & PR:
Shape the public narrative of NCA and The Allen Center. Oversee press releases, marketing collateral, and newslettermunications, while coordinating with external partners on day-to-day social media and digital outreach.
Member Organization Relations:
Foster deep relationships with NCA's memberanizations, ensuring strongmunication channels and developing collaborative advocacy efforts.
Qualifications:
Senior Development Expertise:
10+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor cultivation, and grant writing, ideally within the arts, culture, or historic preservation sectors.
Exceptional Communication Skills:
Highly articulate writer and speaker, capable of movinglymunicating the mission of NCA to institutional funders, individual patrons, and themunity.
Strategic Thinker:
Ability to design donor pipelines, evaluate campaign performance, and adapt outreach strategies based on data.
Relationship Builder:
Warm, engaging interpersonal style with a proven track record of cultivating major donors and buildingmunity partnerships.
Tech-Facile:
Proficiency with donor databases (CRM systems), email marketing platforms (e.g., MailChimp), and standard office software.
NOTE:
The salary listed is for approximately 20 hours per week, with some flexibility; occasional evening/weekend work required and is based on an annual FT equivalent of $80-90k annually.
