Job Summary The Director of Research & Portfolio Management supports University Advancement's fundraising efforts through prospect research, identification, portfolio development, and prospect management. This individual contributor provides strategic intelligence to help development officers identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward prospective donors. The Director partners closely with development officers and Advancement leadership to identify new prospects, strengthen portfolios, monitor prospect movement, and support a disciplined, strategic approach to fundraising. This position may work some after-hours or weekends for various University or fundraising events. Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks Conduct research on individuals, corporations, foundations, and other prospective donors. Identify and evaluate new major and principal gift prospects based on capacity, affinity, inclination, and relationships. Prepare prospect profiles, briefings, capacity assessments, and other research products. Conduct proactive prospecting aligned with University fundraising priorities. Research philanthropic activity, business interests, relationships, and other information relevant to fundraising strategy. Support research needs for donor meetings, leadership visits, events, and fundraising initiatives. Partner with development officers to develop, review, and optimize prospect portfolios. Facilitate regular portfolio reviews and prospect strategy discussions. Monitor prospects through qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Recommend prospect assignments, reassignments, and portfolio adjustments. Identify prospects requiring additional activity, qualification, or release from portfolios. Monitor next steps, solicitations, and prospect movement to encourage consistent portfolio activity. Serve as a research and strategy partner to development officers and Advancement leadership. Translate research and prospect intelligence into actionable fundraising recommendations. Support prospect identification and research for major gifts, principal gifts, grateful patient fundraising, and other institutional priorities. Collaborate across Advancement to strengthen prospect development and fundraising strategy. Maintain accurate prospect assignments, ratings, stages, and research information in the Advancement CRM. Help establish and maintain consistent portfolio management practices and standards. Other duties as assigned. Required Education/Experience Bachelor's degree required. Five (5) years of related experience. Experience in prospect research, portfolio management, fundraising, or a related field. May accept a combination of education and experience. Preferred Education/Experience Higher education experience. Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies Strong research, analytical, and critical-thinking skills. Ability to synthesize complex information into concise, actionable recommendations. Strong organizational, written communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately. Experience with fundraising databases, prospect research platforms, and wealth screening tools preferred. Experience with Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT or a comparable advancement CRM preferred.
