Job Description
Position Overview A growing municipal organization in the Greater Tallahassee area has an immediate opening for an experienced, detail-driven Grant Writer . Reporting directly to executive leadership, this individual will lead the research, identification, development, and submission of competitive public and private grant opportunities to fund community programs, public safety, infrastructure, and economic development initiatives. The ideal candidate brings a proven record of securing new funding, a firm grasp of state and federal regulatory frameworks, and the ability to operate with high autonomy under strict application deadlines.
Key Responsibilities Prospect Research & Strategy:
Identify and evaluate funding opportunities from federal, state, corporate, and private foundation sources to align with strategic municipal priorities.Proposal Development:
Write, assemble, and submit compelling grant narratives, concept papers, letters of inquiry, and complete application packets within strict deadlines.Budget Collaboration:
Partner closely with internal Finance personnel to build accurate, compliant project budgets, narratives, and financial justifications.Grant Lifecycle & Tracking:
Maintain master schedules, milestone deadlines, pending contracts, and comprehensive submission files.Agency Liaison & Compliance:
Serve as the primary point of contact for funding agencies, monitor proposal progress, and coordinate post-award handoffs and follow-ups. Knowledge & Skill Requirements Thorough familiarity with federal and state grant mechanisms, including CDBG, ARPA, public safety grants, and economic development programs. Exceptional written communication skills with demonstrated ability to translate technical program needs into high-scoring grant proposals. Strong organizational discipline, project management capabilities, and comfort working independently under tight turnaround windows.Minimum Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Communications, or a closely related field.Experience:
At least three (3) years of direct experience in grant writing, grant administration, or complex public-sector project management with a documented record of awarded grants.Preferences:
Prior experience in municipal or local government administration is strongly preferred.Pay:
