( WSU ), an ambitious undertaking with a holistic, racial health equity, multi-sector approach to health improvement that engages anchor institutions, community-based organizations, the faith community, residents, government agencies, and the Chicago business and civic community. Rush has committed to financial oversight of staffing and resources for

is led by an Executive Leadership Council, which includes executives from UI Health, Cook County Health, Sinai Health Systems and Lurie Children's Hospital. However, WSU's vision, scope, administration and programming have developed through a collaborative effort with multiple stakeholders. The mission of WSU is to build health and economic vitality in ten neighborhoods located on the West Side (Austin, Lower West Side, North/South Lawndale, East/West Garfield Park, West Town, Near West Side, Humboldt Park and Belmont-Cragin). We will achieve this mission through partnerships with residents, health care institutions, community leaders and organizations by scaling the impact of existing initiatives, developing new programs, and providing coordinated support to existing neighborhood networks of community-based organizations. WSU seeks to address systemic health inequities through robust programming and partnerships. WSU will function as an independent nonprofit with 501©(3) status by Fall 2026. Rush will continue to serve as one of WSU's closest allies and collaborators. The Director of Development is a grant-funded position. The successful candidate will be hired as an employee of RUMC , reporting to the Executive Director of West Side United ( WSU ). The Director is responsible for developing and implementing plans to maximize WSU's support from philanthropic sources, acting as a frontline fundraiser, a writer, and a strategist. The Director will lead multiyear fund development via foundation, corporate, and government grants; corporate sponsorship; individual giving; and special fundraising or stewardship events. S/he will work with members of WSU's senior leadership staff and its program managers to develop content for proposals and reports and will keep WSU's Executive Leadership Council/future board and Development Committee abreast of fundraising progress and challenges. The Director will also collaborate productively with Rush Office of Philanthropy colleagues and with other Rush departments, e.g., Fund Accounting, Marketing Communications. S/he exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures during key 501 c 3 transition.

Other information:

Bachelor's degree. ? 7 years of nonprofit fundraising experience, including at least 4 years managing relationships with corporations and foundations through the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of proposal-driven grants. ? Evidence of professional growth demonstrated through successful solicitations of increasing size and complexity. ? Sophisticated writing and editing skills; mastery of standard proposal elements and an ability to build original proposals for grant makers that do not provide templates or forms. ? Poise in briefing and responding to questions from internal and external leaders. ? Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint. ? Comfortable accepting edits to one's writing. ? Ability to independently manage one's time to initiate and complete multiple projects with overlapping deadlines.

Responsibilities:

? Lead the buildout of a new grants management system to track current and prospective donors and funding sources. Develop and execute a multiyear annual fundraising and donor management plan to meet annual 7 figure philanthropic goals established by leadership. ? Serve as primary author of and project manager for WSU proposals and reports, assuring that all elements of the submission are complete, accurate, tailored to prospect priorities and guidelines, and reinforce consistent messages. ? Cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of new assigned individuals, corporations and foundations. ? Create and maintain a comprehensive calendar of prospect and donor deadlines and events. ? Maintain funder meeting cadence and organize, brief leaders in preparation for, and host site visits. ? Conduct keyword prospect research, draft profiles, and assess RFPs for alignment with WSU goals and potential benefit relative to the effort required. ? Consult with the WSU Director of Evaluation to obtain metrics for reports for new and existing grants. ? Provide timely grant compliance/progress reports to the ED and department managers. ? Ensure that grant contract provisions, budgets and obligations are enforced consistently. ? Collaborate and brief ED and staff for donor meetings. ? Develop and deliver fundraising reports to the WSU Executive Leadership Council and Development Committee. ? Organize annual funder briefing with targeted annual fundraising amount. ? Support Rush Philanthropy prospect managers in logistics of closing out or restructuring active grants (if and as necessary) when WSU formally separates from Rush and attains independent 501©(3) status. ? Contribute to creation of post-transition plan for communications between WSU and Rush Philanthropy. ? During 501 c 3 transition period, support other Philanthropy prospect managers in executing strategies to engage the WSU donors and prospects in their portfolios. ? During 501 c 3 transition period, work with Rush Corporate and Foundation Relations to complete Legal/Compliance review, execution of grant agreements, and establishment of new funds. ? During 501 c 3 transition period, coordinate with Rush Stewardship, Development Communications, Media Relations, etc. to develop, circulate for approval, and execute recognition plans. ? During the 501 c 3 transition period, collaborate with the Rush Finance Director, Rush Community Health Equity and Engagement, to produce clear and accurate transition proposal budgets, expenditure reports, and budget revision requests.
