Full Job Description Summary:
The Development Specialist is responsible for supporting the agency's financial sustainability and growth. This role focuses on identifying and managing fundraising opportunities, cultivating donor relationships, and supporting grant-related activities. The Specialist works cross-functionally to align development initiatives with the agency's mission and provides administrative support to the Finance team to ensure cohesive fiscal and development operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Act in accordance with the agency's vision, mission, and values. 2. Research and identify potential funding opportunities, including corporate sponsorships, community partnerships, and individual donor programs. 3. Assist in the creation and execution of fundraising campaigns, including the development of compelling proposals, donor communications, and appeal materials. 4. Maintain the agency's donor database, ensuring accurate record-keeping, timely acknowledgments, and consistent engagement with contributors. 5. Collaborate with the Strategy & Development Manager, Data & Research Analyst, and contracted Grant Writer to gather documentation, track deadlines, and support the submission of high-quality grant applications. 6. Provide logistical support for agency fundraising events, community outreach, and donor cultivation activities. 7. Partner with the Marketing & Outreach Specialist to create social media and newsletter content that highlights donor impact and development goals. 8. Serve as a supportive team member to the Finance department, assisting with general administrative or clerical financial tasks as needed to support agency-wide goals. 9. Serve as a member of the staff team and attend meetings and training as required. 10. Contribute to additional projects and initiatives that support the agency's mission and overall objectives.
Qualifications and Competencies:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Human Services, Non-Profit Management, or a related field 2. Two years of general office experience (administrative, financial, or customer service) with at least one year of experience in a role involving fundraising, development, sales, or community relations 3. Foundational understanding of the "donor cycle" (identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship) and the importance of financial sustainability in a nonprofit setting 4. Strong persuasive writing and storytelling skills; ability to articulate the agency's impact to diverse audiences to inspire giving. 5. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain professional relationships with donors, corporate partners, and internal staff. 6. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple project timelines and deadlines simultaneously. 7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and a proven ability to master donor management software or CRMs. 8. Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends
Preferred Qualifications and Competencies:
1. Multilingual in English and Spanish or other languages that would support servicing our customers. 2. Familiarity with the Buffalo/Erie County philanthropic landscape.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations :
1. Must maintain a valid NYS Driver's License and a vehicle with current registration and insurance.
