Job Description

Job summary Groome Transportation is seeking an experienced Assistant General Manager (AGM) to support the overall management and operation of a large-scale transportation service. The AGM serves as a key member of the leadership team and is responsible for assisting the General Manager in overseeing daily operations, employee performance, safety, customer service, compliance, and operational excellence. This position provides direct leadership to supervisory staff and works closely with Operations, Safety, Maintenance, Human Resources, and dispatch personnel to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient service delivery. The AGM serves as the acting operational leader in the absence of the General Manager and is expected to exercise sound judgment, make operational decisions, and support strategic initiatives that enhance service quality and operational performance. The position combines operational leadership, employee management, customer service oversight, and transportation expertise to support Groome Transportation's commitment to excellence. Pay $80,000 - $90,000 a year Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operations Management Assist the General Manager in overseeing all aspects of daily transportation operations. Provide direct leadership and oversight to Supervisors and frontline operational personnel. Monitor service delivery, staffing levels, route performance, and operational efficiency. Proactively identify operational challenges and implement solutions to maintain service continuity. Support the planning and execution of special events, charter services, peak-demand periods, and other unique transportation operations. Assist in evaluating operational processes and recommend improvements that increase service quality, safety, and efficiency. Leadership and Employee Relations Assist with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training employees. Support employee engagement, performance management, coaching, and development initiatives. Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and customer service. Work closely with Human Resources regarding employee relations matters, leave administration, performance concerns, corrective action, and policy compliance. Assist with evaluating employee performance and providing timely coaching and feedback. Anticipate staffing needs and support workforce planning efforts. Training, Safety, and Compliance Support training programs for drivers, supervisors, dispatch personnel, and operational staff. Monitor compliance with company policies, safety programs, and operational procedures. Maintain knowledge of applicable DOT, FMCSA, state, and local transportation regulations. Assist with accident investigations, incident response, safety meetings, and corrective action plans. Support drug and alcohol testing programs and regulatory compliance initiatives. Promote a safe work environment and ensure operational adherence to all safety requirements. Customer Service and Client Relations Assist in overseeing customer service programs and service quality initiatives. Respond to escalated customer concerns and operational issues. Build positive relationships with clients, community stakeholders, and operational partners. Support service planning discussions and provide recommendations to improve customer experience and operational performance. Route Management and Service Planning Assist with route management, service scheduling, and operational planning. Monitor route performance and service standards. Evaluate operational data and service trends to identify opportunities for improvement. Provide recommendations regarding route modifications, resource allocation, and operational efficiencies. Maintenance and Fleet Coordination Coordinate closely with Maintenance leadership to ensure vehicle readiness and regulatory compliance. Monitor fleet availability to support operational needs. Ensure vehicle cleanliness, safety, and maintenance standards are maintained. Assist in tracking fleet-related issues and coordinating timely resolution. Financial and Administrative Oversight Assist with operational reporting, KPI tracking, revenue reporting, and documentation requirements. Support budget management and cost-control initiatives. Ensure timely and accurate completion of operational reports and required administrative functions. Maintain and protect company assets and resources. Emergency and Incident Management Respond to accidents, vehicle breakdowns, staffing shortages, weather-related events, and other operational emergencies. Participate in after-hours and on-call support as needed. Coordinate emergency response efforts and business continuity activities. Ensure timely communication with leadership regarding significant operational events. Qualifications and Education Requirements Bachelor's degree in Business, Transportation, Logistics, Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be substituted for education. Minimum five (5) years of experience in public transportation, transit operations, shuttle operations, logistics, or a related transportation environment. Minimum three (3) years of supervisory or management experience. Valid CDL Class B driver's license with Passenger endorsement required. Strong knowledge of transportation operations, safety practices, customer service, and regulatory compliance. Experience with employee relations, recruiting, training, and performance management. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel. Ability to learn and utilize transportation, scheduling, HR, compliance, and reporting systems. Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) qualifications applicable to the position, including successful completion of a DOT physical examination, road test, and any employment requirements permitted by law. Conditional offers of employment are subject to successful completion of drug testing, background and motor vehicle record checks, and physical agilities testing. Must successfully complete the company's Driver Safety Training Program. Preferred Skills Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making abilities. May require occasional travel and participation in after-hours, weekend, holiday, and emergency operations. Participation in an on-call rotation may be required. Reporting Structure Reports directly to the General Manager. Provides direct oversight to Supervisors and supports leadership of drivers, dispatch personnel, and other operational staff. Works closely with Human Resources, Safety, Maintenance, and Operations leadership. Assumes operational leadership responsibilities in the absence of the General Manager.
