DESCRIPTION
The Business Manager oversees the administrative, financial, and operational functions of a parish, supporting the pastor and parish leadership in the stewardship of the church's resources. This role includes managing budgets and finances, human resources, facilities and maintenance, vendor and contract administration, risk management, and regulatory compliance. The business manager works collaboratively with clergy, staff, volunteers, and parish committees to ensure the efficient day-to-day operation of the parish while supporting its mission, ministries, and service to the community.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Management Prepare and manage the parish annual budget. Monitor income, expenses, and cash flow. Responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations. Prepare financial reports for the pastor and finance council. Ensure proper internal controls and financial accountability. Human Resources Administer payroll and employee benefits. Maintain personnel records and employment documentation. Ensure compliance with employment laws and diocesan policies. Facilities and Property Management Oversee maintenance and repairs of church buildings, offices, schools, and grounds. Coordinate capital improvement projects and renovations. Manage relationships with contractors, vendors, and service providers. Ensure facilities meet health, safety, and accessibility standards. Administrative Operations Supervise office operations and administrative staff. Develop and implement administrative procedures. Manage contracts, leases, and service agreements. Oversee office equipment, technology, and records management. Risk Management and Compliance Ensure compliance with diocesan policies. Coordinate insurance coverage and claims. Maintain required licenses, permits, and safety inspections. Stewardship and Parish Support Support stewardship initiatives and fundraising efforts. Assist with donor record management and financial reporting. Provide financial information for parish planning and decision-making. Leadership and Collaboration Serve as a member of the parish leadership team. Advise the pastor on financial and operational matters. Work closely with the Parish Finance Council and other committees. Strategic Planning Assist in developing long-term financial and facility plans. Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency. Support implementation of parish strategic initiatives. A successful Business Manager combines strong business and financial management skills with an understanding of Catholic values, ethical stewardship, confidentiality, and a commitment to supporting the parish's pastoral mission.
