Job Description

The Executive Director of the Rhode Island School Superintendents Association (RISSA) serves as the

chief executive officer, responsible for overall strategic leadership, daily operations, legislative advocacy,

and support for RI public school educational administrative leaders.

Core Responsibilities:
    Strategic Leadership:

    Directs the implementation of the association's mission, vision, and

    strategic plan to support and champion RI public school superintendents, assistant

    superintendents, and other district leaders.

      Legislative Advocacy:

      Acts as the primary spokesperson and advocate, representing members'

      interests before federal or state legislative bodies and educational agencies.

        Operational & Financial Oversight:

        Along with the treasurer, manages day-to-day business

        operations, budgets, resource allocation, and administrative functions of the association.

          Professional Development:

          Coordinates high-quality professional learning opportunities,

          conferences, and networking programs to support leadership development.

            Officers, Executive Committee and Member Relations:

            Partners closely with the Officers and

            Executive Committee to shape policy, governance, and organizational priorities of RISSA.

            • Serves as liaison with the RI Department of Education (RIDE), other state agencies, and other
              professional organizations.
            • Develops and maintains working relationships with the Office of the Governor, the General
              Assembly, and appropriate staff members.
