Job Description
Job Overview The Assistant Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the club while ensuring an exceptional experience for members, guests, and employees. This leadership position manages multiple departments including Kid Zone, Janitorial Services, Member Services, Community Outreach, Social Media oversight, Supplements, and Administrative Operations. The Assistant Manager leads staff development, ensures operational excellence, maintains high cleanliness standards, supports revenue growth initiatives, coordinates community partnerships, and serves as a key problem solver for members and employees. This individual must be highly organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and passionate about creating a positive club culture. Must be able to obtain group fitness certification within 6 months of hiring Previous management experience in fitness, hospitality, retail, or customer service preferred. Strong sales and customer service background. Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Experience supervising and developing employees. Ability to manage multiple departments simultaneously. Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and membership management software. Marketing and social media experience preferred. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to lift at least 50 pounds. Ability to occasionally assist members and staff with physical tasks. Ability to work in both office and fitness facility environments. Essential Responsibilities Member Services & Administration Process memberships and membership agreements. Verify all Kid Zone agreements and guest pass documentation. Schedule complimentary personal training sessions. Assist members with billing questions and account concerns. Resolve customer concerns while escalating complex issues to ownership when appropriate. Support front desk operations during busy periods. Review unusual paperwork and resolve account discrepancies. Assist in managing swim lesson scheduling, instructor availability, and enrollment. Maintain organized filing systems. Purge archived records as needed. Facility Operations Monitor gym wipe inventory. Order supplies as needed. Stock first aid kits throughout the facility. Manage monthly AED checks. Assist with fire inspections and pool inspections. Review work orders for accuracy and completion. Ensure maintenance requests are properly communicated and completed. Retail & Supplement Operations Monitor inventory levels of supplements, beverages, and snacks. Place inventory orders. Develop and launch new retail products. Create POS buttons for new products and services. Monitor bottled water inventory and communicate replenishment needs. Kid Zone Operations Recruit, interview, hire, train, evaluate, coach, and terminate Kid Zone employees. Maintain appropriate staffing levels based on usage trends. Develop, modify, and oversee Kid Zone policies and daily procedures. Manage employee scheduling. Address behavior concerns involving children while maintaining a safe environment. Complete employee evaluations and corrective action when necessary. Step into the Kid Zone when additional support is needed. Process Kid Zone memberships, agreements, and cancellations. Track Kid Zone usage trends and maintain reporting logs. Prepare monthly age-out reports and communicate with parents regarding program eligibility. Communicate Kid Zone updates, policies, and procedures with parents. Janitorial & Facility Operations Hire, train, evaluate, coach, and terminate janitorial staff. Schedule cleaning staff according to facility needs. Ensure all equipment, locker rooms, restrooms, pool areas, and common spaces meet cleanliness standards. Oversee trash removal and parking lot cleanliness. Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies. Update cleaning procedures as needed. Coordinate responsibilities within the maids' quarters. Maintain communication with contracted cleaning personnel when applicable. Marketing & Community Outreach Coordinate and attend community wellness fairs and outreach events. Represent the club at community events and health fairs including Region 6, Walker County, and SHSU Bearkat Mania. Build relationships with local businesses to establish referral partnerships. Coordinate apartment marketing events and flyer distribution. Oversee social media management and ensure consistent content. Create and post facility signage including holiday hours, announcements, and promotional materials. Assist with atmosphere improvements throughout the facility. Employee Leadership Conduct phone interviews for all open positions. Assist department managers with hiring decisions. Train and onboard new employees. Complete employee evaluations. Administer corrective action when necessary. Foster a positive workplace culture. Coordinate monthly employee appreciation activities. Celebrate employee birthdays and recognition events. Leadership Expectations The Assistant Manager is expected to: Lead by example. Maintain confidentiality. Make sound decisions independently. Develop staff members through coaching and accountability. Communicate professionally with members, parents, vendors, and employees. Maintain a positive and welcoming environment. Identify operational improvements and implement efficient processes.
