$65,000-$75,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience Apply by submitting a letter of interest and a resume at: https://www.lansingpromise.org/careers About Lansing Promise Lansing Promise is a place-based scholarship and student-support organization dedicated to helping eligible students who live, attend high school, and graduate within the Lansing School District boundaries pursue and complete a postsecondary education, credential, or skilled-trades program. Through scholarships, postsecondary partnerships, student support, and community engagement, Lansing Promise works to reduce financial barriers and expand access to education and career opportunities for Lansing-area students. Position Summary The Scholarship Program Manager is responsible for the day-to-day administration, coordination, and oversight of the Lansing Promise Scholarship Program. This position serves as the primary internal resource for scholarship eligibility, student award administration, postsecondary partner communication, scholarship disbursements, student records, and compliance with Lansing Promise policies and applicable state requirements. The Scholarship Program Manager manages the scholarship process from student eligibility and award acceptance through enrollment, annual renewal, payment, and completion. The position works closely with students and families, high schools, colleges and universities, skilled-trades programs, financial aid offices, and Lansing Promise staff to ensure scholars understand and successfully navigate the requirements of their scholarship. The Scholarship Program Manager also maintains accurate scholarship data and records, monitors student eligibility and award utilization, identifies issues that may affect a student's scholarship, and provides timely information to organizational leadership to support program planning, financial forecasting, reporting, and continuous improvement. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that Lansing Promise scholars receive the financial support they have been promised and that the scholarship program is administered accurately, consistently, equitably, and efficiently. Postsecondary Partner Relations Lansing Promise is currently partnered with multiple postsecondary institutions as well as skilled-trades pathways, making strong partner coordination an important component of this role. 5. Student Records, Data & Reporting 6. Compliance & Policy Administration Michigan's current student-aid guidance specifically recognizes Promise Zones as a distinct component of financial-aid packaging, reinforcing the importance of accurate scholarship administration and coordination with participating institutions. 7. High School & Community Engagement 8. Internal Collaboration Program Management & Continuous Improvement The Scholarship Program Manager is expected to be more than an administrator of scholarship payments. This position should continually evaluate how Lansing Promise administers its scholarship program and identify ways to make the process easier, clearer, and more effective for students, families, schools, and postsecondary partners.
Responsibilities include:
Evaluate scholarship processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency. Develop standardized procedures and documentation for recurring scholarship activities. Identify potential barriers that prevent eligible students from accessing or utilizing their scholarship. Recommend improvements to scholarship policies, systems, communications, and partner processes. Establish and monitor key scholarship-program performance measures. Help Lansing Promise understand scholarship utilization, student progression, and financial commitments. Stay informed about promising practices among Promise programs and college-access organizations throughout Michigan. This emphasis is consistent with other Promise Zone models, where scholarship administration is increasingly integrated with student success, institutional coordination, data management, and postsecondary access. Grand Rapids Promise Zone, for example, combines knowledge of scholarship requirements with coordination across financial aid, admissions, orientation, academic support, and community partners. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in education, higher education, business administration, nonprofit management, finance, student services, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered. Experience administering scholarships, financial aid, student services, college-access programs, nonprofit programs, or a comparable program. Strong organizational and administrative skills with exceptional attention to detail. Experience managing confidential student information and maintaining accurate records. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with high school students, families, educators, college administrators, financial aid professionals, and community partners. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities independently. Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace. Ability to learn and effectively use databases, CRM systems, student information systems, and other technology platforms. Commitment to the mission of Lansing Promise and to expanding postsecondary educational and career opportunities for students. Preferred Master's degree in education, higher education, business administration, nonprofit management, finance, student services, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered. Experience working with a Promise scholarship, college-access initiative, scholarship foundation, financial-aid office, or similar student-support program. Knowledge of FAFSA, financial aid packaging, scholarships, grants, and postsecondary enrollment processes. Experience working directly with colleges and universities and their financial aid or student accounts offices. Experience working with first-generation college students, low-income students, or historically underserved student populations. Familiarity with Lansing-area schools, colleges, universities, skilled-trades programs, and community resources. Experience with Salesforce or another CRM/database system. Experience with scholarship-management or student-information systems. Knowledge of Michigan Promise Zones and Michigan's higher-education landscape. Bilingual or multilingual skills.
